Thought some of you might be interested in 'WOODY' a hollow wood surfboard build I have just finished. It's yet to get wet but looking forward to its first paddle. Photos below.
I see all the sizes, and it has a similar shape to a board that I had made recently. (standard fibre glass board)
Can I ask, (as a matter of interest) what was the final weight of the board?
Also is there any bottom contour? Concave, Convex? single or single to double.
Was it a kit form, or is it all your own work?
Also final cost.
I had mine set up with 4 x FCS and a single in the middle, goes best so far with quads, but have a big set of twin fins in the post so that will be interesting.
As a final note, Love your work!

I built one a couple of years ago (pictures in my gallery if your interested), important part of my quiver. Weight for mines about 5-6kgs. Don't feel it in the water

The board is mainly made of paulownia with a final weight of 5.9kg. I was always conscious of weight when building and am pretty happy with how heavy it came out at. I reckon I have a few improvements for the next one as I believe I can make it lighter without really compromising too much...
I came up with the design from looking at other very similar mini simms designs and shaped it in AKU Shaper. It was all my own work. No kit from anywhere.. It prob a little larger than your average Mini Simm, but then again I do weight 95kg...
The board has some hull contours. Front is shallow V, mid is reasonably flat and the tails is double concave.... As I said above, lots of details of process in link for anyone who who is further interested.
Can't wait to get her wet!!

Board was finished with 4oz glass top and bottom. Used Epoxy resin (Kinetix 104).. I have seen them finished in oil but I personally like the high gloss finish....

Looks nice, cheers for the info, I like wood boards I've had a couple over the years and always wanted to make one. I think I will start with an alaia to keep it simple, lol.
I can report back after having 8 days of great waves during easter just north of Coffs.
Board was incredibly smooth and responsive!!! Never ridden anything like it before. 'Woody' is extremely stiff which coverts to amazing heel and toe responsiveness.... Alot of fun.... Overall, I'm ecstatic with it....
Next board might be a 9'3 Nose Rider, unless someone wants me to make one of these for them...

I always love riding a new board you have built yourself, great to hear it surfs well. I had a few days on my 5'10" mini as well over easter, great boards for the right conditions and waves, i even managed a cheater 5 on it... 105kgs on a 5'10 doing cheater fives... tell em I dreaming
Tying to think of my next board to build, either a short kiting/surfing thomo/nano/vanguard or an 6'8" egg or a 7'2" bonzer. Will probaly do vacumm bagged timber skins on EPS as I want a light weight travel board if the kite/surfboar or hollow timber for the longer boards.
