Greetings fellow Seabreezers.

It is about time for a new board...

I'm pretty keen to go local this time, and am interested in recommendations.

Simple 6'0 round pin for the bigger and/ or better stuff.

Local names tossed around - Oceanline
- Clearwater
- Colin Earle

Then there is the multitude of solid and experienced Down south shapers.

Anyone had any particularly good boards and experiences they can recommend.

Cheers

Dave Smith. When you think about it there's not to many blokes left knocking up boards these days.

Al Bean. He does really good high performance boards that can handle some juice. I assume you mean Perth waves though and not 6 foot down south barrels. If that's the case maybe consider a little more length.

Chris McKenzie (oceanline) AL bean, good boards from both actually epic boards... I haven't got a board off katana yet but the scud looks pretty epic and his reviews are good, seen his boards and they go well had a ride on one and apparently they are also long living...

Oceanline can do a real nice single fin too with glass fins, Al bean has sick rocker on his. Look just order one off each of them, same dimensions give us a ride report and itll make my next board choice easier.

Maybe we could cut a deal get a demo board from every shaper in WA put it into a community pool and all put up ride reports........
Once we have spread the word we can go international, a board from every shaper in the world, of course I would be happy to run the surfboard library from my house......

Ok business idea, surfboard library, attention all shapers, please send one free I mean test board for library

Cheers everyone

The surfboard library is a sick idea!

Quite a few nods for AB.

Interesting, as I was thinking about going for one. A couple of the standouts at Southsides last week were riding ABs. Few of the local groms around here rip on them too.

Good rocker is key for me...I've been riding flatter nose rocker in the last couple of boards and am just not that into it.

I had a good look on his instagram account.

Awesome looking boards and super good feedback.

I like the idea of supporting a younger up and comer too.

Is he a good bloke to deal with if you're a random calling him up out of the blue?

From the feedback, I'm assuming yes?

cheers

My bro got a board off him and it looks awesome. And yes very good to deal with by all reports. Around 700 for a custom I think.

Got disappointed by the SWELL we were supposed to get on Friday- shapeless then wind affected crap at Scabs after work
went up north on Saturday- got a couple that were quite good, it's fast and responsive....will probably join the tour next week!!

Had considerable amount of time on Daves boards both surfing and kiting [the same board]

this stick has seen some heavy use for well over a year now.

This should be in a kite section but gives an idea the board passes the durability test

I got a slightly bigger Katana Skud (6'4) originally intended for Perth Waves, where it goes great. However, also surfed it in top conditions down south over the weekend and it went amazing. Excellent board .. a really great all rounder.

Except it was tiny down here on the weekend. Fun but tiny. I didn't want to be a negative nancy, but 6'0" strikes me as very small for quality waves "down south". Unless he is a small bloke. Even the small good guys down here generally surf around 6'4" in the quality open breaks here when it is 4-6. If you aren't small or good, maybe add a bit of length and foam if you are intending to surf it down south. Or just enjoy a lower wave count and late critical drops.

of course if it is only for metro then it may be fine.

Yo Drip,

I should clarify,

I've got a 6'5 pin I surf when its getting around 5/6ft and over. I agree with a longer board down south when it's juicy.

I've got a couple of squashed down, wider flat rockered boards for Perth grovelling, but they are little unsuited to anything that requires a proper bottom turn.

When I say bigger - more in reference to metro standards than solid SW waves.

The 6'0 (I could be convinced to go 6'1) would be more a good wave performance board for when its head high to a bit over , lefties/big rock, bays, beachies, Lancelin, Indo etc.

cheers
