Whilst I'd like to believe otherwise, I think magnets make a good placebo for a decent sized shark deterrent. As a retailer they would be a great product to sell as there are no complicated warranty issues like you can get with electronics and as 99.9% of surfers are not even going to see a shark let alone be attacked so everyone believes it's doing a great job. Just my 2cents worth.
So if you stck it under your blankets or wrap it round your wrist, will it be good for sore backs & arthritis too

I saw some testing of the magnets system in the watch idea. The video i watched the shark ate the watch first go
People have been buying shark deterrents for years, but I am yet to see someone that sells these things put their money where their mouth is.
When one of these shark deterrent developers/retailers climb into a shark cage that is lowered into the water surrounded by feeding white pointers, then strap on their shark deterrent, climb out of the cage and swim a lap around the boat, well that is the one I will buy.
Until then it is all just hearsay that they work and IMHO pretty piss poor selling a product they won’t trust with their own lives, but expect us to.
Shark shield has been independently tested and does work. 9/10 times. :) I've been using one for a few months around Ballina and just the peace of mind is great.
Certainly a good idea for a product - I bet they sell a truckload of these.
There's a little bit on this if you search the web, including a short wikipedia write-up: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_shark_repellent
There's also another company doing similar: www.sharkbanz.com/pages/how-it-works
Swimming a lap around the boat with the little sharkies underneath would be a great test. Hahaha.
i agree
Sticking a shark deterrent on a seal and letting it swim around would be a good test.
Unless you're against animal testing.

YOu'd be stunned at the regulations on these types of products in regards to testing. The funniest I've heard is they don't like to have the unit turned of and then turn it on when the shark is close feeding. Apparently guidelines say its unacceptable to scare/hurt the animal/shark like that
Hence why so much of the testing gets done offshore..
