I'm tagging along to Noosa on my wife's work trip in July. Just wondering what equipment I'll need. I'm fairly competent but know my limitations and use a hypto up to head and a half and a step up for more solid waves. What can I expect surf wise?
Thanks
JR

I surfed Noosa in July 2009. There'd been strong onshore winds generating a good size swell & I'd had good waves just down the road at Moffats & Kings Beach Caloundra for a couple of days before we moved up to Noosa. We arrived about 1pm, missus went & checked out the shops, I went to TeaTree. Quite a few people out at first but they were all sitting inside. Crowd was thinning out. I sat on a back bubble & caught the set waves that went all the way to the beach & you'd just walk back round the point & rockjump back on the point.

I think I had a 6'0 Firewire Hellfire, I don't remember but it was just a regular shortboard...was great on the first day which was overhead, not quite head & 1/2. But the next morning I hit it at 0530, the swell died down to waist to chest & I worked my ass off to get 2 waves off the longboarders dominating the break.

Hypto's a great allrounder. Take that & look into renting a longboard...you can't really expect anything, it could be flat or it could be just overhead. But there are waves on the beachies to the South. I wouldn't expect anything "solid". If its big you'll want to surf one of the Noosa points. If its small you'll be checking out the beachies to the South or heading to Caloundra for middle range fun waves out the back of the river mouth.
