When having a swim at Cronulla, I sometimes feel the pull of a rip. If I'm in a rip, is the best "escape route" to swim parallel to the beach until I'm out of its pull? That was the advice I got many years back...

Cheerio,

Yep
and sometimes one way will ( left or right) be easier than the other
main advice is don't panic and don't fight it.

The best bet is, learn what a rip looks like and dont swim there......... unless you want to get out the back quick, then a rip is your friend.
