Hey fellas
I've noticed for the past while now that i keep spraining my right wrist when poping up on late drops. I'm a goofy and its always my right wrist. Any insights would be really appreciated. Maybe I just need to do some wrist strengthening exercises?
Start drinking beer with your right hand , stubbies for the first couple of weeks then progress up to King browns .

You need to look at how you are 'holding' the rail when you go to push up. You should not be grabbing it - rather more of a flat palm/hand/push-up action. Maybe ask a mate to tell you...
Where exactly is the pain?
Have you had any shoulder or elbow issues on your right side?
Do you have a desk/computer job?
Yeh I work in an office bear in mind that i can do pushups and that just fine, I think the problem lies in the way in which I hold the rail

I never hold the rail and never have. Push off from the deck using the flat part of your hands - like a push up. Make sure you keep you chest and head up as you paddle into the wave. Never drop it down. This will benefit your hand position. Not as extreme as this fella but it gets the point across. Watch youtube of the pros - people like Owen Wright and Kelly Slater - check out their body positioning. They know what they are doing

So where is the pain?
It's different to a normal push up.

Do you get any swelling?
Does it effect the wrists after ?
I don't want to sound alarmist but if you have any of those symptoms go see a doc...I fractured my schahoid and was in plaster for 6 months after falling from a bike...its a tiny bone in your wrist and if you have a high pain tolerance you might not even realise its fractured
No swelling I just get intense pain for short periods of time. Sometimes I'm up surfing and then get a crippling pain in my wrist and fall off the wave

That could actually be connected to the Scafoid bone that Tux mentioned. It breaks easy and its a pivoting point for the wrist. SO small when it cracks it can actually split in two. I find mine moves around and some times the throbbing pain from what they say can be blood flow restrictions can be rather intense. Also if you bang it again or strain it, the pain all starts over from the word go, as if it s a new break.
That probably makes no sense, sorry already in holiday mode
