Sciatica is driving me towards back surgery. Surgeon wants to do a 360 fusion on my L5S1 which means entry from the front and the back to stabilize the spine. Has anyone experienced this surgery and returned to surfing?

Hey mate i had mine done about 8 years ago but they only went thru the front so wasn't a 360 one , never heard off that one before , anyway like you probably are i was dead set ****ting my pants before it thinking well im ****ed here my surfing days are well and truly over i was in my mid 30s then and had been struggling with constant pain for a couple of years before hand with some extended periods of not surfing for months on end due to the pain , i heard a few stories about guys having it and not being able to do alot of physical activities anymore after the fusion which was terrifying for me but i had reached that point of trying everything else i could for my back pain , anyway long story short had the opp struggled thru rehab in lots of pain still for a couple of months after then woke up one day with no pain at all and honestly felt like i was moving like a teenager again it was absolutely incredible feeling , i started surfing as much as i could again and have done ever since and my back has been amazing i swim a couple of kms a week which also has helped , but seriously the opp turned out to be a great success for me and if its your last straw i recommended going for it mate i have a pain free life back ! If you have any questions feel free to pm me and we can have a chat

I also had a discectomy probably 4 years prior to my fusion unfortunately for me it didn't work out to well and i was still suffering from sciatic pain , it can be a very depressing injury the old back pain really gets you down some days , but there is light at the end of the tunnel
