Just got back, not the best trip lots of rain, wind, foam and crowds were out of control with 20 to 30 Brazilians regularly at the popular breaks around Playgrounds. The Brazzos were generally pretty good and where I stayed surfed with a group of older guys who were brilliant. I will have to think a bit about where I go in the area next year as I don't usually stay in the Playgrounds area.

Haha thanks for the reality check Captain, yeah I have joined the grumpy old men group, even at its worst I still got better waves than home........guess I have been spoilt on earlier trips, a sunny arvo in the Ments

Firstly good post, secondly more pictures required..

i hear ear you with playgrounds area,,, 3 trips there and a few elsewhere when it is all time through there it really is all time and all of the waves light up and your spoilt for choice.... I have however had what could be considered a "bad" trip but still got waves just not the info perfection..... Looking back however and right now I would give my left nut for those waves .....board shorts beers warm water and reef breaks,, thanks for the report

haha I'd just about give my left nut for any kind of waves in Indo right now, can't beat just surfing in boardies & a rashie

Seen heaps of pics of the place pictured up the top there & that looks bigger than most other pics I've seen of it.

+1 need more pics bro & pics of the islands (non waves pics) would be cool too. I've never been there

Great pics mate, frothing so hard for indo waves but I'm not going for months unfortunately. You were in Bali as well this trip weren't you I remember you saying you surfed middle reef. Looked like it was cranking when you were there. I watched a Padang Padang surfcam for about 1/2 an hour that day, it was going off

Tried the warm-up in Bali before the Mentawai trick and chose the Airport Reefs for 7 days after 3 days over at Canggu. 1st day was at maxed out middles which had sneaker sets shutting down so I just tried to take the set waves hoping to dodge the close outs. I crashed and burned on a couple as I was under done skill wise and couldn't handle the power but managed to survive to pick up a couple of drops. A young guy got caught inside ended up washed down to Kuta Reef I got lucky and only took them on the head out deeper still left me gasping for life
Reefs were a bit over crowed even middles but did meet some great people out there.

haha done that a few times mate...you get tempted to go that little bit further on the middle size ones & get confronted with relentless bombs shutting down through the deep water between mids 1 & 2...either paddle all the way round the north side of Mids 2 or end up getting washed down to Kuta reef ...my favourite time is when its on that borderline with a mid tide

If you go to the ments, get a boat... near the same price as a land camp and your floating hotel sits at the wave you're surfing... and when it gets **** or too crowded, off you go to somewhere else!!

Some breaks but not a issue most its just going to be the local captains/surf guides/ deckies, locals are not any where as wealthy as the Balinese.
