Hey, i got a quad fish from Dick Van Straalen as per image, it s a quid set up, i want to set it up as a twin fin, what fins should i get ? I know nothing about fins, especially for twin fin. I have the keel fins quad now but i dont think that it will be just fine to just take off the ones at the back.
it s a 5'10 and i m 188cm 84kg
thanks
I don't think it will work with how wide it looks... so i say get big ****ing fins
Seriously though it might be the most fun fin change ever
Is it a problem that as a quad set up, the fins might not have the same angle / correct position as a real twin fin ?
Don t want to buy those twin fin for 150 and then find out that it actually didn't make much sense because the front fins box of a quad is not positioned efficiently for the fins/board to perform well on a twin
****, i m in Manly, Sydney ! I dont think it makes even sense to take off the rear one, the keel i have are too small it s going to be slip too much. I have to find a way to try big fins
The rest of the board isn't a twin fin. I suspect it won't go well as a twin fin as it designed as a quad. Very different boards.
that was my thoughts as well. I asked the shaper he replied in 2 phrases....
''Hi matt you can but it up to you to try first take out the back one an surf it like that dva
Its also made for what ever you want to do just go for it don't be limed by your thinking dvs''
Agree on the 2nd part but i dont want to buy 5 set up twin fins and see what works i can t really afford that. Will see how it goes with those keel fins but they are so short, might be too skaty
As i said before it could end up the best fun you have had iff you try it as a twin. Have you got any other fins to try?
If not
Just do what the man says and go have a crack mate
The fins on a dedicated twin are waaaay further back - check MR's boards. Stick with quad- plenty of options in terms of front/rear sizes. Quads overcome a lot of the deficits that twins have.
Take off the front two (really) take it out in a small day and glide on it...
than an flick the tail....
come me in walk into a shop and buy Simon Anderson quads sa4. Put these two in the back( really) go for a surf enjoy
I checked the Simmons quad set up, the shape is so different from those keel that i have, what difference will it bring to the surf ?
I d like to do more radical turns, feels like the keel are more for drawn out turns but where i surf there is not enough surface on the open wave to do large turns, i need reactive fins
Have a look here. It may help. It's my business so not sure if this will be a wrong thing to do as it may be classed as advertising. Let me know admins
