Just wondering if anybody has any old pics of Uluwatu from the early days? From the top of the hill looking down the valley with the old huts when you slept on the wooden benches?
Yer only a few shots from the top of Ulus in the book. I have met and keep in contact with at least 3 of the local crew from that book. Froggy is now under the spell of his beautiful wife and pretends he is to old to surf. Cooks the best feed though.
this is looking back up the valley waterman...there were no warungs at all then...and funny enough we were staying at the suadana losmens...Froggy's Mums I think
Is that wayan second from the left?
(Sorry, had to)
1 in 4 chance you're right
Not sure if you get to Indo but theres a Froggys Cafe (Warrung) on the beach at Balangan. Froggy as a grommet was one of the first blokes who started lugging boards and gear up and down the hill for Aussie surfers. He had a couple of photos that people had given him way back. Also Jim Banks, You can get him via the Mangoe Tree
at Padang, Padang guaranteed he'll have some. - You could message him via his Business website and he may be obliging?
I thought Froggy died of tetanus? At least that's what my old edition of Indo Surf and Lingo states.
Theres a few Froggy's on Bali all surf (or did) and Rip. Of those who were grommets around Ulus back in the Early Days of Suring the area ,One's a Life guard now at one of the big hotels, Surfs once or twice a year. Was one of the Standouts through the 80's early 90's and then theres Froggy at Balangan (Froggys Cafe). Doubt thats who they talking about in Surfn'Lingo as he's alive and kicking, Little rounder a little less hair, fewer teeth but still cheeky, happy alive and well.
The Froggy I surfed with a few times in the 80's used to rip. Seriously good surfer.
In those days it was a long walk into Ulus down a rough track with a bamboo ladder down into the cave. Good times.
Froggy worked at Troppo Zone in the 90's and surfed around the world on tour. He is now a judge for the major Bali comps. He looks rather alive and does own at least 1 warung. Not sur if he owns the cafe at Balangan. He lived casually in Australia during the 80's staying with a family named Repacholi. He still is a top bloke. He did co-own the surf shop on Malasti street, I think the other guy is named Sonnie.
