Hi guys, I am a beginning to really like foiling. I am still a beginner, started 2 weeks ago. And I made below mount. Fits the BoomX Gopro mount.I think this should give me a cool perspective.... imagine the cool stuff you can record in clear waters.... if it works ??
But you guys think it will work?
Will I need to consider special technique to get up?
Any recommendations?
It looks good but my tip would be buy some strong fishing trace wire and make a safety line to go around the mast. You don't want to lose that nice camera if something goes wrong.
Hi Cyber, thanks man.
I wanted to go out yesterday but the wind did not show up. One of those days when you all rigged up and get skunked .....
Next windy day looks like to be this Wednesday .... so I be out there and test it.
Thanks also for the wire tip, .... I figured 2x options as per now, bungee rope and the new more strong plastic rope.
I may or may not ....underestimate the forces ... yes.... dont know ..... Though I am unsure about the bungee rope .... this may be too weak, but the RED plastic should do the trick! Its pretty strong and gets a nice tension on the setup.
But I will add an additional layer of "anti loosing this expensive camera" layer, ... Not sure if it will be wire, but I think of something and let you know.
I hope to be able to show an video if the cam stay on ....
Hi Cyber, thanks for the feedback. Just had a look, these are steel ropes with plastic coating - not so much a fan of it, but yes, they strong and they will secure your camera.
As a safety leash (for example on my Sliver Camera Mast Mount) I use the Chinook downhaul lines.
----- and I will use Chinook line also for this project. The fishing line is a good option because its soooo thin with little drag (reason why I am thinking about), but the way I will mount the safety leash it will not matter. I will show a picture soon I get on the water. Unfortunately there is not much wind in sight the next few days..... man!
Just make sure you dont fly too close to the water! The camera will create turbulence which might result in the mast losing grip/ crashing. I had the same problem with a really bulky reinforcement at the top of the mast.
Ok - will try ...
.... you know, just started foiling 2 weeks ago ... so I carve a pretty Wavy line into the air throwing-in some entertaining (at least for the other surfers) catapults from time to time
We need footage. Footage, man, footage. Good luck. We look forward to see how well it will work. Footage!
Hi guys
Here the first footage, see Youtube link below.
Below pics show the camera setup I used.
I did record with an 360cam - but used only one side of the lens, the other had the cover on to not scratch the lens touching the board.
There was barely wind - so I was pumping the hell out of that sail but got up just a littlebit. Sorry for that.
I will make another attempt and mount the camera so it can actually record 360. I will post soon.
The footage is 8min - stay on it - see how the weeds stick and do not let go of the wing, very interesting.
And actually, I believe that mount I use with that special rope is perfect will will hold on to very strong forces - I believe there is very little chances of a fail. However, you can see the Chinook line as safety, .... in case .... :-)

Very cool indeed. I have a question. You notice that the board rolls a little left and right, while the camera seems extremely fixed at level.
Since the camera is attached to the foil mast, is the mast flexing where it plugs into the board? Or is this a feature of the software?
Hi Segler, its the software. I use the GoPro Max - it a 360 cam and the recordings software deals with a 360 movie and does distort and flex.
The camera is fixed - no movement - the mast and all the setup too :-)
