Interesting device for the stabilizer. The author says that he tried it and it works. How do you think it is worth making such a device. Will it help you take off or not?

Funny last week I was wondering why there was not an asjustable stab , even if it was by hand by stopping on the water and moving it .

Given that a half degree of stab angle change creates a noticeable difference in foil feel, watching him wave that wand up and down and seeing the radical changes in stab angle made me quite uneasy.

A number of foils are easily adjustable on the beach - Horue, Zeeko, NP/F4, Taaora, Manta to name a few.

but it is necessary to go ashore. You have a steady wind. And we can have 6-7 knots and in a few seconds the gust will reach 9-10 knots.

The other day, on my little pond, it was 9-24, which is pretty common. Most of us would say 6-10 is quite steady. I would not want to be going over a boat wake or the top of a swell and have my foil, with a mind of its own deciding to trim itself. It's a clever idea but it's revealing that in the inventor's first post, he's not quite sure what a "neutral" angle of the stab should be and assumes 0 degrees.

It is interesting that the use of a trim tab in airplanes often is for changing center of gravity (e.g. fuel tanks being emptied in flight). Conversely on a windfoil, we use changes in CoG (shifting body weight) since we don't have a trim mechanicsm.

I would see this would be useful for beginners learning to foil; similar to training wheels for a bicycle.
There could be multiple flap sizes so a beginner would be able to fly without the it as skill is increased.
There could also be flap shapes for stability for Pitch, Yaw, Roll for beginners.

So basically a tool for a school or club and make first time foilers a greater chance of flying.

Why can't you put a wing on the mast?
At slow speeds the mastwing will help with lift.
At higher speed the mastwing will be in the air so less drag (you might even get air lift).

First, the adjustment assumes the board is pointed in the right direction in the first place. How does it know if you've hit a piece of chop, you actually want the board to go up or something else?

Putting a wing on the mast doesn't work because it's behind the CoG. As air is 700 times less dense than water, the wing out of water isn't going to be doing much at 15 mph.

If you want a beginner's foil, get a big wing and not too high mast.

I've seen beginners look more at ease than that though, he looks like he's "on eggs" and not really comfortable. 5 out of 7 riders on the last test event we organised were flying 2km reaches straight and fast without really crashing after only about 20 minutes / 3 legs back and forth, 1 was even flying through jibes after an hour (granted, he is really talented). 90cm masts and 900cm2 wings.

That's his first ten seconds. I have no idea what his prior skill level is.

Nonetheless, whether using your example or mine, training wheels aren't an imperative.
