Hi, was wondering if ayone has some useful tips for tunning foil sails specifically for course racing. Batten tension, camber spacers and all that. I am using a Patrik Foil+ 9.0 and would like to get a little more performance out of it.
Not many responses. I can't help either with this specific sail, but my general approach to foil course race sail tuning isn't vastly different from slalom foil race tuning.
That said, given that one tends to use a bigger size sail (or hold on for longer to the same sail size) for up/down wind racing compared to slalom racing, and that transitions in course racing are usually less critical than in slalom, I usually aim for a relatively more locked in sail profile (=more cam pressure).
My general approach to batten tension is also the same as for slalom, although I might look for a bit more upwind power by adding some tension to batten #3 (=first one above the boom) for some added backhand pressure.
If there are two clew positions, I'd go for the top one.
And I usually add a bit more tack strap tension for course racing than for slalom.

I like a little less downhaul in light winds to hold the leach tighter and of course use adjustable outhaul to change the profile especially if the wind increases!
I was surprised how much a lack of downhaul affected my ride trim just last week! Even this was probably not enough!
