Stoked with the Slingshot Hoverglide Infinity 76 wing for riding small waves and downwind bumps.
Keeping weight low and forward controls acceleration lift down swells and the wing loves being cranked through turns.
Crazy that this foil is a perfect beginner setup and also awesome for more experienced riders

1m swell, SSW 10-20 knots - very average for wavesailing but epic for foiling.
54 kms of super fun with Simon the gybe king

Impressive!

How my GPS tracks usually look like:

All kidding aside, you make a great point about the Slingshot that I think is more generally applicable about the whole class of bigger wings, both surf/freeride and freerace. Great for learners but you don't have to outgrow them at all. A lot of people getting into foiling are worried about the cost - this is on argument that it's not as much as it seems.

I'm only in my second season foiling and my progress has exploded with this wing. I agree with azymuth about keeping weight forward and low for down wind. In wind 12kts+ this wing is not as slow as everyone says it is when your pushing it, nothing like race foils but still scary. I'm sure I hit 20kts the other day. I was killing these 18-20ft cats both in speed and up wind angle, even had time to do a 200m down wind run and meet up with them

What wind speeds will you mainly foil in?
Do you sail on the ocean or flat water?

aiming for moderate wind strength - say 10- 18 knots after that go to wave board but may get hooked on foiling

sail is initially is 5.6 wave sail - but happy to go 6-7 foil suitable;e sail

not looking to go racing or high speed with large rigs

I'd go the Infinity 76 - wind range 10-25 knots, fun in chop and swells.
The 86 is better suited to 8-15 knots and flatter water (for your weight).

Check with Jesper - he rips on SS foils and sells them

When do you change the rear wing on the SS? Got the 2020 SS on order with 76&86 wings. Due end sept.

I have the 84wing and run the 48stab. I wind and sup surf with a 71cm mast. I can windfoil from 12knts with a 5.8m and so far have sailed in gusty frontal crap up to 25plus knts with a 4m. The combo does seem to do it all. I dont see a need to go a smaller stab. What would the benefits be? I'm guessing in surf mode pumping may be easier.

^^
I went back to using the 42 rear wing with the Infinity 84.
I found the 84 tends to dive when powered-up downwinding bumps and as it's easier to push down on the back foot to keep the nose up with the 42.

The 48 rear is great fun for cruising around - super stable, a Cadillac

Maybe not - if you're still using the SMIK below you're probably getting a lot more lift than me as the mast is super forward

When you're windfoiling fast are you getting tons of lift or does the wing sometimes dive?

Yeh it does dive a bit in windfoil mode. I have ordered a new board though. A custom smik slab. 6"6x29 @112l. More width and volume than my converted surfsup so that will help. Being shorter it should carve better to.

84 is super smooth and predictable (tad slow), with the 48 rear I can foil through the wind holes (at 90 kg)
I use this when 8-14 knots with a 7.8 down to onshore 5.0. I recently tested this against a friend who was on a much bigger
sail and weighs a lot less and I could pump up the foil quicker.

84 with the 42 rear, is a gybing dream as it turns a hair quicker than the 48 rear, I feel it goes off the wind much quicker as well.
I cracked some great duck foil gybes with this combo.

76 with the 42 is what I have been using in around 15+ knots. Almost nailed a 360 as you come in fast and it turns very nicely, this set up has this crazy ability to stay high up on the mast.

I can see why Azymuth loves the 76 for swells and down winders...for lighter weight guys or people wanting one foil set up, this is hard to beat.

Pic was on the 76/42 cranking into 360, that wing will grip you around FAST, so you better hold on :)

Hi Northy

3 times out is still early days. I'm sure you will tune it in after more time.
I can't really speak for the Naish 122, but it looks more narrow and less width in the back of the board vs Slingshot Wizard 125.

Would you have a chance to try a Wizard 125 to compare?
I got a demo one here, if you are in Perth.

The balance with the SS Hoverglide and 76cm wing + Wizard 125 / 105, is amazing. I haven't touched / tuned / or tweaked anything since I stepped onto it.

I did did use a older slalom board to start with ( over 1 year ago), and it was ok for the beginning stages, but I did notice how easy and balanced it got , when I jumped onto a Wizard 125 with the same foil set up.

Hi North

I have foiled the 122 but only with a 2018 naish thrust and 70 mast. It felt quick but twitchy. It was a friends so I only used in for a short time. It seemed to foil up quick but I'll must admit didn't feel crazy confident on it. I'm sure with practice you'll smooth it out.

First time I used the SS 125 was in crazy winds with the time code 68 wing. The tail width and volume gave it a secure platform. 9 months later The SS125 is my go to board, it's phenomenal. Think you'll pretty much get the same reaction from those that foil slingshot boards and foils, they have it all worked out for you.

My wife uses the 76 with a 60 cm wide 90 l Fanatic Freestyle board without any problems. I've used it with a 66 cm, 110 l freestyle board, and now use the 84 with a 71 cm slalom board.

If you buy all Slingshot or all Naish and follow their suggestions, things will be balanced right away. With a mix, you'll have to figure out where things go, which can be hard without any foil experience. But on the upside, you'll have some understanding of how the various variables influence trim. There's been more than one post from guys who started with one Slingshot setup and then got another wing which they hated .. because the new wind needed trim adjustments.

You've experienced the two extremes of not enough and too much lift, so you should be close to finding the nicely balanced middle.
