Hello
There are several brands which propose an hybrid surf foil for windfoiling with their multipurpose boards. Even some of them can be ordered with a bigger mast for windfoiling (80 cm), and you can put it in the right balance point of the board thanks to the doble usbox, the short fuselage could be less stable for learning windfoiling.

Has somebody tried this kind of 60-70 cm fuselage surf foil on windfoling?

Thanks.

Short fuselages are good for pumping eg sup, surf and even wingfoiling. But short fuselages make gybing on a wind foil board much more difficult. I tried short fuse for a bit but quickly went back to standard length fuselage.

Hi again
I've contacted a shaper and the guys from these videos:

They use big surf foils with short fuselages and they look very stable. I think they keep a good distance from the front wing (not the foil mast) to the sail. This is key to have stability, right?, or are they supermen and they have perfect conditions and equipment?

It seems that you can use a surf foil with shorter fuselage if:
1) you use a big front wing
2) you move forward the foil mast so that the front wing is under your feet (2 x usbox tracks)
3) you keep a good distance from the front wing to the sail mast (moving forward the sail mast)

I'm looking forward to confirming this in real world because it would open tons of chances to buy cheap surf foils and smaller boards

Any real experience would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think wing to sail distance has anything to do with it.

The key is mostly they are only doing 10-13kts board speed time with big wings, so if the fuselage is a little shorter, and you have a bit less pitch stability it's fine because you have more time to make corrections. Would be much harder on a faster foil and you were doing 20kts+.

I've sailed the i99 with the short surf fuselage, and its super easy, mainly because you are going so slow.

Almost everything works when set up properly.
I use short fuze and kitesurf wing, less than half the size of the wi surf wing.

Some foil such as SS are so stable...almost too much, shorter fuselage would make them much more lively!! I've heard a few SS rider who really loved it with shorter fuse. But they like it with the shorter fuse for surfing however...not going in strait line.

Surf Fuse have usually the foil mast very near the front wing, wind fuse put the front wing more in front to compensate for the sail I guess? That will change the ride of the board for sure.

+1 on both of swoosh's points. Many people find having the sail close to the foil (all other things being equal and in the right place) somewhat less stable because points of force are so close together.

And both those guys are literally world class windsurfers and really good foilers.

This is them almost three years ago. I'm assuming they've improved since.
