Fuse offers two mast positions with plastic filler block. Decent price point for 100+ cm carbon mast

Explain to me why mast position would vary between slalom and race?

Race position will have too much power for reaching.

So in racing its more upwind and max downwind and slalom is more reaching?

Yes. I think the current PWA slalom is downwind slalom (someone correct me if I'm wrong) which is reaching at it's fastest. Unless of course you're a gps speed sailor in which case you would sail a bit lower than that.

Course racing is upwind-downwind around a closed course, usually two laps. The ability to fly upwind at a good vmg (velocity made good), and blast downwind at a good vmg, is key.

Slalom racing is generally a downwind zig zag at angles of, say, 10-20 degrees off the wind around several jibe marks. This is pure blinding speed. Being able to make fast jibes is key.
