No point asking those northeners Russ, their idea of a winter suit is one we'd use in summer!
What happened to your old one, did it shrink?

Talk to http://jaysails.com.au/wp/product/wetsuits/
That's where most of the sailors in south Tas get their gear, normally has a few in stock or on the way. Great deals, give him a call.

I bought a 4/3 ION Quantum on line last week from DexterSurf - wore it on Monday in a balmy 11 degree day with apparent temp of 6 degrees - super toasty warm - flexi forearms (no arm pump despite pretty radical conditions and lots of boom holding in the mega gusts)

Price was really good - not sure how many they have - free post as well.
Worth emailing them to see if they have any more if you want a bargain (I'm not a fan of front zipper wet suits)

I wonder if there is a model with a front zipper to relieve yourself and ankle zippers to be able to put it on and take it out without fighting....

The quantam has flares at the ankles with velcro to make it easy - you just have to remember to undo them before you roll it down - flares are so good that they'd go well with platform booties

Yes, their 3/3 custom suit is warm as in Christchurch waters.

I bought a 4/3 rip curl flashbomb today from trigger bros. it was $599.

It has this fuzzy stuff on the inside that makes it super easy to pull on over the feet.

Have been checking out their website, they look good. The best winter wetsuit is one that fits really well, so the custom option is great.
Anyone tried their Xcel booties?

Easty's ideal wet tie would have a stubbie holder.

Now that would be an INNovation!

Would a 3/2 with polyfleece underneath equal a 4/3?
Are chest zips absolutely necessary for a warm suit?

A sealed 3/2 will do a melbourne winter for s surfer but because of wind chill it doesn't cut it for windsurfing.

+1 for flashbomb

I have a 3x2 Flying Objects Flux Chest Zip. Well warm for everything I have used it for, which included a trip to Merimbula.

Smooth Skin on the chest is almost a must for wind sport use. Mine is for sale if anyone in interested.

Good morning, Mr.Cranky,

"Just looked it up. They have zip-free wetsuits now?!"

You need to be careful with front zips and no-zip types, as I found that both were extremely diificult to get into/out of. Definitely recommend a trial fit to see if either type suits you.

Problem is the wetsuit manufacturers size the steamers for surfers who spend a lot of time in the water and want a very snug fit.
As surfers are always wet the suit loosens up.
Windsurfers want something that's warm but comfy but not too tight because we stay dry most of the time.

? I've been windsurfing for 20 years and can't say I'm dry most of the time during a session.

The cheapest place to get a wettie is at a charity shop and the money goes to a good cause. They always seem to have heaps They can't get rid of.

i scored a radiator L/S top for $10. Used it and boardies all spring and summer. Awesome.

I've got a 3-4-5mm Serene ( female version wetsuit ) Neil pryde that is very comfortable and keeps me toasty in 12degrees air ( add windchill) and 11 degrees water in Lakes in winter.
