Hi guys,
I haven't windsurfed in over 20 years. When I did, I was just beginning to waterstart an old plastic Bombora X-it and almost able to pull of a carb Jibe now and then.
I'm 6ft 7 and nearly 110kgs. Can anyone suggest some boards/sails and gear to get back into it? It'd be nice to be able to teach my kids who are 13 and 15 to windsurf on the same board if possible.
If you have any gear for sale you have that may suit let me know. I'm in Gippsland Victoria area.
at 6'7" you are going to want tall sails with a high cutout
at 110 kilos you are going to want a large, high volume board
with your height to weight ratio, i am going to assume you are fairly fit
suggest a board of 160 to 170 liters with 80 to 94 cm width
for you a tall 8.5 sail should be okay
and for the young uns - same board with a 4.x sail and smaller fin
this should get you all going and having fun
that's based on my location - do not know your area ...
Thanks Joe. I have just been reading a thread and see the JP Explorer boards look pretty good. Maybe the 195.
An 8.5 sail sounds pretty big. Would this be for very light winds, under 10kts?
Hi zumaray
I also got back into windsurfing some time back. It sounded that when you were on the water last, you were a resonable windsurfer. Given that fact, I reckon you will progress relatively quickly. A 195 l broad is pretty big, so perhaps a 140 - 160 might be better suited in the short to medium term. On board that size you kids will be fine.
I sail around on a starboard Go 145 l which has really helped me getting back into the water. With a 7 m sail in a 10-15 knots wind I get it going pretty well. However i am slightly lighter 70 kg or so. So you probably need a bigger sail but I won't know really what size.
Good luck mate. It is always great to get an extra windsurfer on the water.
