What's the general consensus on the best current and recent 100ish windsurfing board for ,blasting, bump and jump and freeride.
Have the new shapes improved and is there a such a board that exsels in all discipline,s
If its really rough and you're going hard I think the older slightly narrower freeride and FSW are better. The egg shaped things of a few years ago weren't popular. So depends if you want early planing or control? Then, how much jumping? A freeride will be lightly built compared to most FSW's
I was gonna say 105 litre rocket LTD ,but after telling Reg about how good it was at jumping waves in Lancelin ,he told me it wasn't built for that ,or in other words not strong enough ,as mark suggested I would also think of a strong construction ,for jumping ,
JP .Naish starship ,or S3 Tabou.would be my pick .
My choice:
240 - 245 long
60-62 wide
Any recent model Exocet Cross 104 (2020 models have trimmed the length by 10-15cm! - don't know what that will do)
Takes a 6.5 with ease
I'm going to agree with a few above.
Rocket for easy fast freeride. But its not a big jumper for sure..... or equally a Fox.
Both great in rough freeride but I wuld be regularly be jumping them proper
FSW - a 3S. Good construction, very damn fast for a FSW but turny enough for some waves action. Equally, a Dyno for a bit better turning but maybe not quite as fast B&J
How recent...?
I know my 2011 mistral 104 Syncro was the best jumping board blaster I've had ,was heavy but strong .I still have the 2008 124 model, but its shagged from jumping ...soft on top hard on the bottom .
Love my 2017 Naish Starship 90 for fast blasting, jumping and even a bit of wave riding. Im curious how the new 2020 shape compares.
I'm enjoying my 115 dyno, haven't had it that long, but so far impressed with the ride in choppy conditions, not sure about speed yet, but that wasn't why I bought it. I wanted versatility. I'm 95kg so, the 115 to me is probably like a 105 to most.
I am surprised that no one is comparing Freestyle boards. They cross-over from flat water to waves, and generally user friendly. Yop end speed may be an issue but they are early planners. What do you think?
My thoughts are RRD v3 106 FSW fast with a slalom fin and brilliant B&J very easy board to sail,I allso I love the RRD v3 firestorm fast with stock fin and with a freeride fin and straps set inside good in B&J . SB 2017 kode 103 fast and brilliant in B&J (shame it's us box tho) SB Atom 100 fast board and ok in B&J but bit dull. Naish starship 100 fast and brilliant B&J but bit of a marmite tho. JP FSW super fast and a demon in B&J.
Last in my short list is the fox 105 fast and brilliant in B&J .
My favourite board's are fox 105 and firestorm 101 V3 (firestorm 101 is my keep board) but this is just my personal list there are so meny other board's like rocket wide 100 and Exsoset cross 104 Blast 100 but my list could get too long.
Please respond agree or not.
They all sound good to me ...glad I'm not picking ..why settle on one ?
I'm happy with my 105 rocket .I'm still gonna jump it its just natural when I bump appears .
i also have a 100 slalom exocet ..she's fragile .
Still have fun on my Starboard Carve 99, goes alright.
Am I missing out, are newer boards that much better?
Tried Fox 105 (+fast and exciting -fragile), Dyno 95(+great jumping and carving -not fun to use outside straps), Blast ltd 100(good overall but too dull in sensation), Cross carbon 94 ticks all boxes in my opinion, very early planing and easy to use, as comfy and exciting as Fox but just a little slower, great jumps and carves too, 2019 ones are good price.
