120 Naish Titan or 120 Fanatic Gecko.
Am an intermediate after a general fun free ride and have it down to these two. Any thoughts from anyone who has sailed them. (Have sailed the Titan and found it all round fun with no major bad habits; not sailed a Gecko. Both wide to compensate for my lack of skill coming out of gibes. )
tnx.
Not the Titan - but I have been terribly unimpressed with the construction of other Naish model about 2011-13 ish aged ................. and very impressed with Fanatic wave / freewave
I know its different models but the Naish FSW was breathtakingly insufficient...... so Id wonder about the freerides
Of course if looking at new, maybe its all changed....
Fanatic blast, you won't regret it, best decision I ever made, improved my sailing no end, gets me out on the water lots more and having fun when I do, try one if you can.
back in the day ... Magic ride suggested STARSHIP over the TITAN ...
"Joe windsurf has a good point on width over volume. When I was shopping around for a new board a year ago to replace my 2003 Naish Titan 110L board, I was talking to the staff at Big Winds. I told them I wanted a board similar to my 110L Titan which was 63cm wide and 252cm long. So they recommended the Naish Starship. Very similar shape to the old Titan, but in a newer generation build. Interestingly enough, the 100L Starship was as wide as my 110L Titan was, so I almost got the 100L Starship, but the only thing that kept me from getting the 100L was that the sail range topped out at 7.0, and my biggest sail is a 6.8. I felt the 6.8 was too close to the limit and thought the 115L Starship would handle the 6.8 much better, plus it's a little wider at 65.6 cm. All in all, glad I chose the 115L over the 100L. My smallest sail is a 5.2, and the 115L still rocks with a 5.2 sail size on it. And the Starship is much faster than my Titan was. Some of my buddies used to pass me on their gear when I was on my Titan, now I pass them up with my Starship. But yes, interesting thing about volume versus width."
If I could add to Joe windsurf's quote that I said, was that I was looking for a new board to replace my 2003 Titan in the 2016 year, and the 115L 2016 Starship fit the bill for me. The older titan like I had was a narrow board, so the new starship matched up best to the older titan, but much faster and desirable now with all the thrills. The new titan does not match up with the older titan. It's completely redesigned.
The new redesigned Titan is much wider, than the older titan, with more room to move around the deck. Mark suggests that naish may of had some construction issues from 2011- 2013 with their boards, other than the titan which is interesting to hear. My 2016 starship has a firm deck, but if you bump it with pressure on a rock, it will ding or crack. The starship is not a carbon board. The newer titans comes with a carbon or non carbon construction option. The newer titan has a sufficient amount of liters built into the board which looks like it might be the amount Mikey100 is looking for. I'm a Naish guy, and have always liked their boards. I don't have any experience with the gecko, but I'm sure more seabreeze members will express their input on the gecko.
