Just wondering what is the best aproach to repairing the grip on a boom once it starts to peel off? ATM it's a pain in the ring and getting worse with each outing. It's only peeling at the front of the boom- and naturally right where my hand goes. The rest of the grip is fine. It's EVA type foam if that helps. Any ideas to fix it?
Sorry the pics a bit crap, couldn't get the flash to work on my phone...
Cheers,
Phil
If that was me I'd just tape it with electircal tape and wear gloves..but I suppose thats not the answer you are after..
Sellys Quik grip is your friend for peeling boom grip, either glue back down what you have or re-grip with new stuff.
Just make sure you bevel the edge of the new grip where the join will be and over lap and sand off excess.
Sand the section out and cut a replacement strip out of an old fin cover as it's the same stuff. Sand flush.
If you're going to do the quick fix tape job, use that old fashioned "Elastoplast" stuff. It sticks fine (as far as tape goes) and it gives good grip too.
Cheers for the tips. Will get some elastoplast just for tomorrow, and then do Barns trick with the old fin cover- good thinking mate! I'll grab some Quick Grip in my travels. Thanks again.
Hockey tape works great, no need to use gloves although a bit rough in the beginning. But once you get used to it, you'll love the thinner diameter and non-soft grip.
