6 x 2+ hour powered up sessions in the last fortnight have seen the ol calluses come back with avengence after a pretty sketchy winter.
After years of carving off my calluses with a razor blade and scrubbing with a pumice stone I think I might have found something a bit safer and better. The lovely lady brought this 'Ped Egg' home the other day after a visit to Kmart.
Supposed to be for feet but worked a treat on my hands last night. The cheese grator only removes dry hard skin. Looks and feels all wrong but only goes as deep as the dry hard skin and leaves normal soft skin underneath untouched.
Wish fixing my dodgey knee was as easy...

Would be good for parmesan (have you tried it on cheeses?)
Anyway, don't you want the callouses? I reckon they do more good than harm
Tried gloves but lost too much feel and made my forearms tighten up. Depends how thick your calluses get I suppose, some guys I know don't really get them at all.
When mine thicken up the actually hurt underneath, one actually blistered. Might be something to do with the skin loosing its flexibilty.
I love my calluses, they protect my hands, I really miss them when the season begins and I'm sailing with my baby soft hands.....
I have used on of those with good success on my heels but I have found an electric vibrating palm sander works better, not kidding at all. I have a problem with heel cracks.
No reason why it wouldn't work on your hands, I use an 80 grit.
I think its the jumping and attempted wave riding that aggrevate mine, try not to spend too much time hooked in
Paid the price dearly in Maui this year, went from no sailing to 10 days straight.
Warm water, no calluses = ouch
Not sure how you would prepare for that
Anybody know how to get rid of the muscles your body grows after windsurfing too much? they are so annoying.
Also, has anybody noticed their skin gets darker after being in the sun? I heard it's for protection but I think is a conspiracy.. Any skin whitening products??
Whoever designed the Human body was on drugs..
Don't use a harness wave riding = calluses
Thick calluses get stiff with age and dont flex so during a long session they start to dislodge or form a blister underneath and if you keep sailing eventually rip off.
I trim mine with a nail clipper to try and keep them thin to offer some protection and not let them shear off from being to thick.
I use gloves and don't find they hinder my sailing at all, unlike booties, which take some getting used to.
The gloves do, however, make longer distances more comfortable on my hands. I've still got calluses but they aren't getting any bigger.
I think with gloves, the effective diameter of the boom changes slightly, which is why your forearms hurt. If you use the gloves consistently, then they are fine.
