Here are a few snaps of the happy campers sailing in cocos this month.
The gang drag racing. You actually get tired dragging for 3 kms.
Plenty of water and Island to explore
Don was the oldest guy on the island and proud of it. He came with the intention of making a few gybes. Yes he made many.
He was quite happy about it!
Mick is the energizer man - he doesn't stop. He rode 3 kms out to the yacht club then sailed for 5 hours, then rides back to town, before riding another 3kms to go snorkelling. On a few days he then rides back out for a late sail for another hour. Now I mean he really sails for 5 hours. He is out first and in last and spends maybe half and hour refuelling on the beach and 5 hours sailing.
There are a few more pics in the photo page.
Hey Paul, tell us more. What facilities are there - accommodation, equipment hire, lessons, non sailor activities.
Hi Old Salty
The island has a range of accommodation but our guests stay mainly at the Cocos Bungalows which are a cluster of about 10 units set around a tropical BBQ area. They are self contained units with veranda that make relaxing a breeze.
The islands offer brilliant snorkelling, glass bottom boat tours, fishing, and general relaxing as there is only 100 people on the main island. Direction Island is a postcard style beach that is one of the best in the world for looks and snorkelling.
As we take people up to Cocos every year, we also take all the gear so guests only have to bring their harness. We take all the current gear and leave it all rigged up at the yacht club for hassle free sailing. Lessons are as required, when wanted.
The place is a flat water paradise with up to 4 km average runs in waist deep water, which is so warm. The winds are trade winds that blow average of 18 knots. It is a great place to improve your sailing and to mellow out and de-stress.
Man do I want to go. Can't afford it.
How about 2nd Wind running a comp so there's hope for us poor buggers?
I'm surprised Chef hasn't posted yet...I've been getting SMSs about Cocos Is. for a year now, and looks like we might be making the trek next year! From the info we were told...3k covers everything for 2 weeks?
