My 2009 one piece iSonics have been in much need of new footpads for some time but trying to find replacement pads was like hen's teeth. Took the matter into my own hands and found some 5mm diamond grooved EVA from a jetski supplier on Gold Coast. The product is called Hydroturf and comes in a heap of colours. Traced the old pattern onto some detail paper then transferred to EVA, cut out with scissors, drilled footstrap holes with dremel and glued down with Selleys Qwik Grip contact cement.

Tested the first time yesterday and was amazed at just how much better they were than the original.

Anyhow I'm pretty happy with my handy work so here are a few pics .

Nice work saus...

My only critique - maybe bevel the edges on the pads before glueing?

Yeah I did bevel the rail edge with the Dremel after fitting but the second set I made for the iS122 I bevelled the edge whilst cutting at an acute angle with the scissors. They're only about 1-2mm thick along the rail of the board.

Sheet comes in 1.0 x 1.5 metre at around $80.00 (this would get you probably 20 to 25 footpads depending on size). They wanted to charge me that again to courier to Yeppoon so Brad C kindly picked up for me on the Gold Coast and gave to the Surf FX boys to bring up to Burrum last week. The link for GC shop http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod507.htm although sourcing it locally in your state could be more economical. No doubt you have Jet Ski riders in SA too

Good work. Why didn't I think of using the dremel. I used a wad punch instead for the holes.

I found another brand of glue that doesn't stand out as much as kwik grip if you get it outside the pads, like I do. I just can't remember the name, and probably no one else gets it everywhere anyway.

Your pads look clean, so it looks like you never had the problem.

Great job Pork Snag, looks the goods

The only thing different I'd do is, I'd make one big pad, you know under front back and both side straps, that way if you hit another sardine it'll hold your Isonic together

Ha Bob, think it'd take more than one big footpad to hold those newer models together. Can't winge about the 09 models though as they've been through everything one could think of.

Jason,
Those towelling shorts are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Got wet hands.......wipe em on your shorts.
eating sticky chicken wings and don't want to lick em clean in front of the chick you're tuning...............wipe em on your shorts
Gone for a swim and forgotten your towel..................dry yourself with the shorts
Got really large tackle.........there's enough room for another set

Well you'd need two because of your choice of board

Where did you get the shorts or were they home made?

Last time I tuned a chick told her about my windsurfing - got a slap in the face and a dryspell for 3 months. Maybe the towel shorts would have impressed her more!

perfect job sausage $80 is about what you would have paid for the origonal , if you soak the pads in turps and cover with glad wrap for a few hrs they should just peel off, it looks like there's 2 layers of foam
