I'm considering a s/h Fanatic Falcon 89 (2007 model). I won't get to see the board 'till Saturday.
Can any tell me if 2007 was a good year for the Falcon? I'm looking to use it with 6.5 or 5.7 sails and to try a few speed runs in both flat and choppy water.
hey man, yeah people used to do really well on about that year model and size, i think it would handle those size sails, sorta depends on your wieght a bit, they changed there shape in 2009 and have basically kept that shape since, making modifactions each yr, sunken mast track etc, the 2009 and 2010, didnt have any of those features, sunken mast track, raised back area,, but they are different shape to the 2008 and before, there smaller, round nose, smaller tail.......so yeah, the 2008 would be good and fast, probably handles chop better, extra length and more rocker, ive had all sorts of boards and brands,, fanatic is one of the best in my opinion, ha, goodluck man
I have the 90 litre which is the 2008 model and I love it. I use from 5.0 up to a 7.5 on it no problems. I weigh 74kg's. I found the 6.7 I have is its sweet spot for me but very very good with a 5.8. When I would use the 5.0 on it was when the water was quite choppy and it didn't like that too much. I found the board didn't have quite enough V on the bottom to cut through the big chop too well.
It's a fast board and very comfortable to ride. It gybes well but not as well as some others.
Buy it, you won't regret it.
Here's a picture of the board from the online ad:
I think it's actually a 2008 model. The ad says its 89 litres, 245 x 61. The Fanatic website has the 2007 model as the 90 litre board and the 2008 model as the 89 litre. Plus the graphics match:
and you are right, mine is the 90lt 2007 model not 2008. Pretty much an identical board though. Out of interest what did you pay? PM me if you'd prefer not to say in public.
