HI, just putting this out there to see if anyone can help. I purchased a second hand windsurfer for my daughter's 21st, supposedly a complete package, only to find when it arrived that the piece that connects the mast to the deck plate is missing. I know nothing about windsurfing, so a very kind guy suggested I post the pictures here to see if anyone can help me out.

He says that what I have purchased is an old windsurfer one design, the original windsurfer. He also says someone has done a dodgy modification by screwing a deck plate into the board over the original mast socket, and that I cannot buy the replacement mast base that plugs into that deck plate.

Does anyone out there know if there is anything I can do or buy to salvage this?

Appreciate any comments!!!

I recognize that base plate, I bet you can find a part somewhere. Alternatively you could have someone turn up the metal male part pretty easily.

Have a read of joewindsurfer.blogspot.com/2013/11/windsurf-mast-bases-and-extensions.html

Looks like it might be a euro pin connection

That looks to be a tyronsea
I have the part in used condition if you can collect it then it's free
I'm Brisbane South
Where are you located
If iposting interstate is required i suggest you change the base fitting to something newer

I was thinking about changing the base to something newer but worried that it would involve drilling more holes in the deck. RonnieG should relax in the knowledge that its no big mistake.

Here is what I think you might need. Good luck.

Back in 1987 the Tyronsea was state of the art for windsurfing deckplates.

The original windsurfer never had a mast track .The base just pushed into the slot somehow held in by friction and suction sometimes it pulled out and hit you in the leg.
You could always just screw a Chinook double bolt base plate on there and sika.
Or glue a block into the slot with an m8 insert for the base.

All yours (feet not included) for $0 plus postage (assuming you are somewhere in Oz) . I'm guessing it won't be more than 20 bucks to send

tyronsea, also maybe the first to have quick connect lever on the boom head to attached mast, I broken a few (and they always replaced them for free)
They were easy to use compared to rope option

That extension clip arrangement was bad news. I ended up using a ring with peg that went all the way through. I don't know if that was a Tyronsea fix or after market solution.

Yes I think many used different add ons or aftermarket versions custom made for the Tyronsea mast base as most including me were using it for wavesailing..memory is a bit hazy. I doubt the extension is needed on the stock windsurfer which is the subject of the original post as that is likely using the original Windsurfer fishing rod style blue mast..Most Tyronsea bases had a plastic sleeve for different diameters but I can't remember which is needed if any for this. The original poster has not provided details on the inside mast diameter at the base and a photo of the mast.

Yep, I still have a joustin stick in my garage roof. When I got back into windsurfing and tried to use my Tyronsea extension in a modern mast it was real loose. I used a split bit of PVC pipe as a sleeve.

Now I have joined the 21st century and have new matching gear. Life is good.
