One of the coolest windsurfing videos anyone has posted on here, tell me that's not where we all want to be if we make it to 81?
Das sollte meine Mutter sein
Im November ist Sie auch achtzig ...
Helga mentions the importance and luck in staying healthy
My mother used to tell me all the time when I was young.
We don't realize the truth in that until we get "old"
"Live each day to the fullest. You never know when you're gonna go."
The inspiring thing about all these videos is that while their body's look old the spark in their eyes and sound of their voice that of a young person.
In my time, I've been told that I'm "too childish," and "too old to be a surfer".
What ever you do don't listen to these negative voices! Don't let the kid in you die.
That's so beautiful, too many get lost in what life is really about and making the most of it. I'd bet on her death bed she'd be remembering awesome, windy days and that feeling of freedom not what model of car she owned or how big her house was. Most people loose sight of what really matters.

I ran into an old windsurfing mate John Rumford, on a cruise a couple of years ago. I hadn't seen him for around ten years and asked him if was still sailing. He said "Not so much these days, I took up kiting instead."
I asked him how old he was now and he said "81"
John was a famous speedway rider in the 50's And 60's as well as an A grade tennis player in the 80s and 90s
A great mentor too.
Great! I doubt I'll still be sailing that old..
Alwyn our local is an inspiration. He has finally admitted the 2-3' chop at Coal pt is a bit much but at 82 he says he hopes to have several more years sailing at Budgy.
I was out one day at Budgy and someone flew past me and then I noticed them flying back upwind.. It was Al!
I lent him a GPS one day and he got 28kts but I'm sure he has done more..
He says his balance is a bif iffy for gybing these days but he's amazing!
Here are some photos
2016 - probably 81 years old?
The yellow sail is him sailing at Peely in 2016 the pink one off Coal pt 2009 when he was probably early 70's.
How do you delete a photo or order them? Sorry I posted one twice..
Above - Al's on the RHS.
Nice photos Sue +1 for Al, he is a true gentleman and a legend. It is not uncommon to see him flying around Budgie during the warmer season.
Good photos of Al, Sue. Nice of you to post them. This is such an optimistic thread for those of us wondering how long we've got.
