The first one is safety. It's dangerous to have that old wobbly fin...
Try to keep your sails the same kind of color ish..
With a straight face , perfect, "what ? , that old sail", or ,"Davo sold me that for $75". Good to have a bit of stash cash.
I got my other half on the water, she is not as enthusiastic but she understands....
Recently bought a board at a good price off local shop after he sent me a text asking if I knew of anyone who would want it. Her response was ^He knew you would get it"
A good woman if worth her weight in gear
New boards go into old bags for years without getting caught
buy a custom and pay $100 a week as it gets built

Yes, that is what I have done too. Helps with choosing holiday locations too, there has to be a windsurfing rental nearby. ;)
Recently she made up a new requirement/rule though, a new board in means that an old one has to go out...
Always have boards the same color and enough of them ("indeterminate number") that n+1 looks pretty much like n. Or at least use the same color and style of board bag.
My wife is my biggest fan. As much as a I love windsurfing, she's staying.
Tell her your ordered flowers and jewellery for her, but scammers hacked your account and sent windsurfing gear.
Don't ever complain about what your wife spends
And encourage her special interests/passion (equestrian in her case) as well.
Write off some gear in "driveway reversing accident" or "a rat got into my sailbag". Doesn't even need to be your current kit!!!

A good strategy, when it works!
I actually married a sailboarder who was waay better at it than I was, but it didn't quite work out as he promptly lost interest in watersports. Which is hugely disappointing. And I changed to kiting, but still have sailboards gathering dust.
He still sometimes warns me when conditions won't be good (but I don't listen).
But at least he doesn't stop me from collecting more gear, as necessary. And I don't question his 'needs' to purchase whatever stuff he thinks necessary for his interests.
I hope it keeps working out well for you, as a shared passion makes for double the fun!
Use 'Retail Therapy Maths' as taught to me by the ladies. Stay with me here and read carefully:
Buy an item that is at least 50% off. With that discount applied, you have now saved more than you intended to spend. Therefore the item was free.
I find it helps to occasionally be seen to sell something. It would help her cause too if she sold off the odd pair of shoes or handbag.
Just don't get married man. My spare bedroom is sails and boards.
Amen brother!
Great topic!
I'm normally pretty honest with my partner but earlier this year I brought a foil drive (I'm still going to windsurf occasionally). A mate goes "it's best to ask for forgiveness after".
Well that cost a new mattress and a new couch

NOOOOOO NOT HORSES!!!! They cost a small fortune standing still in the paddock.
Thankfully my wife has moved on into surfing and the horse has a new owner ??????

All true, but unfortunately I don't get to choose, but then again neither does she about my sailing??

I had a horse..Unfortunately I had to put him down so I'm now horseless. It's probably for the best as I don't bounce as well now I'm older.. Water is softer to land on
Boards are much easier. You can just leave them in the shed until needed, no feed , farrier or vet bills.
No mind of their own .. although sometimes I wonder..
Hmm.... I can't justify buying new gear to myself so it's easy. Or do you include the new-to-us as well ?!
Get your local retailer to tell your wife that they don't sell gear. It's just somewhere you go for a coffee and to swap gear over ( thanks Board crazy ??).

Mine too and my daughter. I'm encouraged to get gear, she's one step ahead of me .
All ways a great topic I made a video about it with my wifey, just for fun. She is super supportive and does all the filming for my YouTube channel. I make sure to get her many gifts.

My ex comments that I look happy and it's great that I'm getting out so much. If only that attitude was there way back when. And I take the kids sometime too which is a bonus for me.
