I used to live in Pomona and go to cootharaba to sail our hobie cat. I reckon it's perfect for sailing/ windsurfing because the lake is quite shallow everywhere, maybe chest height, and it picks up wind really well. can't advise you on wind directions but we never had any problems going sailing. If there is wind around you'll pick it up there. it gets really choppy thou when it blows but thats gales. Have fun. I'm a bit jeallous of not lifing close enough to such a fantastic lake

I've tried Cootharaba a couple of times but the wind wasn't great. No reflection on the venue it was just one of those days. Can get shallow near the edges but looks like a fantastic spot.

The lake is a great spot, albeit a little gusty at times.

the best directions are N, NE, S, SE i would say. NE is most consistent wind drection beacuse it funnels down the length of the lake.

E are usually pretty gusty because its coming across from noosa heads, but its totally sailable. ON a good SE there are great little ramps to jump off, but also gets very smooth up at the top (northern) end. best thing about the lake is you can always walk back if you break something, and you can have a 8km run on a SE. The usual crew are legends as well.

Sailed there lots. It's great. Shallow in spits. Wear booties. Everytime I sailed >25. Lots of fun. Little ramps.

Why wear booties?

yeah why?
I once tipped the hobie beeing out there alone and my father inlaw waded in chest deep water for a km or so without ever stepping on anything pointy. As far as I know it's a sandy bottom.
