Check out these beauties, dug up from Skill Johnson's shed today while he packed up his Hale'iwa house. Not sure if you guys down under have heard of Charlie Smith, but he made everybody's boards on O'ahu back in the 80's. These are going up in my sailboard fence, except for the pink and green Charlie Smith asymm. That one is going to get ridden once, then it's going on the wall. Also liberated from Skill's place was a "women of baywatch" Playboy from the 90's and a Best of Lynrd Skynyrd CD... Today was a good day. Side note: Phil Cooke is our friend who passed away a few years ago (heart attack right after coming in to the beach from sailing). I was stoked to find one of his boards in the shed.

Nice post. That assy is only barely an assy isn't it? I still fondly remember the rock solid bottom turns on my 1990s Delta assy. That one was a real can opener, compared to your much more subtle curves! Let us know how she goes before you rack it on the wall.

Cheers, Jens

While we are in the sheds. Still have this that I used when I was 14 yrs old. Old polakow wave board. Don't have the heart to throw it out.

They might make a comeback like vinyl records?

That's a beauty fishlogan, you should try to hunt down JP and get the board autographed, then put her up on the wall!

Jens,

Yeah the tail is super subtle, very beautiful board. I can't believe it's in such good condition. Going to be really neat to try her out.

Quite happy to head to Maui for that signature.

Is your fence going to be like this one on Maui? And it's still growing.

Here's what we have going on, we were inspired by the Maui fence for sure.

Thanks Tardy,
I love walking around out there and thinking of all the fun these boards gave their owners!

Sailed the Charlie Smith board yesterday,

Of course had to yell over to Tophat before he launched his kite to check it out.... He owns the shop now who's logo is on the board. Well, it was wild riding that thing... I didn't realize how much of a sinker it was, even though it's 9ft something! It sure looked pretty slicing through the water though. Got in the straps and blasted a bit, caught a couple of crappy waves, and that's it that's all... she can now rightfully hang on the wall! Oh, and I also absolutely nailed the reef coming in at low tide, was sure the finbox was toast. Nope, not even a crack. Damn they don't make em' like that anymore.
