I was finding I was getting different results after repeating the test on the same mast.
Aside from the jig I was using to measure at 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 points, I found the mast would move once I placed the 30kg load on it. The base would move away from the wall (its reference point) more than the top would move away from its corresponding reference point, I don't think this is correct.
I assume under load, the overhang over the suspension points should be the same at each end?
OR
Does base get fixed @ 50mm overhang and the top moves when the mast is bent under load?
I have included some pics which may help show what I mean.
man, you are going to a LOT of trouble
what mast are you "measuring"?
SailWorks clearly states "Check the overhang lengths are correct."
and in the accompanying diagram they are the same on both ends
NOT sure how they ensure NO "slippage"
there are other crazies on this forum that have measured masts in the past
and will give "better, more analytical feedback"
I Have a number of masts, but the ones I really want to know the bend curve for are 92% 430cm Hotsails maui RDM (specified @ 14) & 80% 400cm XO RDM.
Sail works states 50mm over hang at each end, but the mast gets shorter when it is bent.
Oh and I should say the wind has gone where I live....1 session in the last month
There will be the odd storm blowing in Autumn, but then no wind until Sep. I have plenty of time to mess around with measuring masts and other stuff
