Been following the thread on PLB's (personal locator beacons) but keener to go down the path of setting up smart phone with GPS phone tracker app. Downloaded a free one and found that it drained the battery to fast and have been researching youtube etc to see if I can find a app that has a function where it can be turned off to save power and enabled when required. Stumbled upon this and thought it had merits. One thing that concerns me is the possibility of being knocked unconscious and unable to activate a PLB, the phone tracker/ gps tracker has some advantages.
Can someone also tell me if it is correct that some/ all smartphones can be used to make emergency calls without sim card fitted ?
