What type of course are they racing the foils on - reaching, or windward/return?

different course today, they used the old M course like in the 80s...
interesting that the race was abandoned due to lack of wind...

Yeah. Strange rules for PWA.
Mandatory Starboard start. Abandoning race due to patchy wind or not enough wind for bigger guys.
The don't seem to abandon the slalom racing when it's too windy for the lighter guys?
Foiling Rules in the Olympics will be different for sure.
Great to watch though. There were some pretty big moments and some great gybing and tacking duels.
The drone footage is awesome.

Yeah I thought it was odd that they abandoned and basically the whole fleet foiled from the start boat back to the beach....? As Stu says above, as soon as it's windy the light guys basically have no chance in slalom so why penalise them in foiling, ridiculous.

Great racing but as a fan of tactical racing i'm not a huge fan of the M course, it's basically a short windward leeward with forced gybe locations, hence far fewer tactical options. It does however bring the fleet together at the gybe marks, leading to a lot of action which I guess is what they are looking for. Personally I think the M course should only be used when it's right at the light end when you struggle for upwind and downwind angle, in other cases stick to windward/leeward as it opens up way more tactical options for the fleet.

20-30knt forecast for today.
Hopefully they can bring the racing closer to the beach for better camera angles and views.
Lets see if JDG (Japanese Drone Guy) can lose his drone again like last year

Agree with comments above regarding M course vs windward/leeward, it is more interesting when there is more to a course race than a downwind drag race at predetermined angles.

Is there an official minimum wind limit for PWA foil course racing ?
