Before any Inverloch Windsurfing Club member pipes up...
Yes, I know I'm having a kid soon,
Yes, Megs WILL be sailing more than me
BUT, I want to know more about Point 7 sails other than what I've read in the UK Windsurfing Mag tests.
Has anyone got one?
If so, how do they sail and are they durable.
Is there demo sails in Australia?
I LOVE the look of these sails, they're ace in my books and I'm thinking of buying one in the near future but I'd rather demo them before I buy (cam vs no cam)
Any advise or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Hey George,
I can't comment on the sails - know nothing about them besides the fact they mostly seem to be black. Is that a bad thing, no idea. Your probably going to have to upgrade your mast if buying so factor that into your decision also - make sure you get the right spec mast for the sail. Also, I wouldn't rush into a cambered sail too quickly. I think you sail mostly at Inverloch so imho your better off with a non cambered until your ready. Others might say differently but I reckon you'll have more fun and actually go faster on most days down there than those on cambered (I've seen a lot of people struggling with them at Invy, especially with the strong current and chop). Just my opinion. And seeing as megs will be using it more than you it'll be much easier for her to rig and use
I think Sean O'Brien sailed them for a couple of seasons (or still does??) PM him. I think his log in is AUS120 or something like that.
A recent english wind surfing mag,it may have been Boards did a comparison between a cammed Point 7 and a non cammed and came up with a very suprising result.
I brought an 8.7m a few months ago. Goes great. Huge range. Would like to try it out in less than 20-25knots though. At 75kg it was a handfull but surprising controllable (relatively). I think it looks really cool also, at least I feel cooler.
I bought a 4.7 a couple of years ago. It seems great to me! The best thing about it is that it is black with a silhouette of a woman on it!
Hi guys,
Yep, I'm riding P7 still ... also working for them ;-)
You'll like the durability on them. The black monofilm isn't just for looks; we have a slightly thicker film than other brands which is a bit more resistant to crinkles (from rigging) and is 100% UV resistant, so it won't get brittle and crack after years in the sun. The orange film in the window is also 100% UV resistant.
I think you'll find our sails are a touch heavier than some others on the market, but generally its cause everything is super reinforced and the materials are much more heavy-duty. End result: they last longer.
As for masts... best to have the P7 ones, but if you already have either a North or a Gun Sails mast, they are the closest in bend and you could get away with it.
To be honest, the no-cam sails (AC-X) rock! I'd stick to them unless you are trying to get a lot of top-end control out of your sail or want to race...
Not sure what BoardCrazy (boardcrazy.com.au - the site is down at the moment I just noticed) have in stock but PM me if you have any questions as I helped develop a lot of the current range :-)
The January Boards mini test basicly put the ACX ahead of the ACK in most instances except for top end stability and extreme reaching and also stated that you would need an extra 1/2 meter bigger sail to get the same power from the cammed sail.Over all the no cam scored 7 points over the cammed sail which scored 3.
I haven't seen a black CA board... would be cool...
That photo on the Exo was here - seanobrien.com.au/windsurf/sydney-harbour-fw-photoshoot/
Definitely want to try and hookup a black board to go with the black sails; looks legit ;-)
I'm on Starboard now so I had to pick the darkest carbon finish on the iSonics to get the best look... haha.
Interesting about the test results on the AC-X... it's an amazing sail, but I also think the AC-K (3-cam) is too if you want a bit more top end. Bought one for my Dad recently and he's loving it.
I'd love to have a carbon board with just clear coat. That would be ace.
I remember being at the formula serise at Jervis bay last year and there was a 'dude' there with a point 7 sail and black excocet board on the water. He didn't win but he looked cool...... and that's gotta count for something.
But back on the sails though... My main issue is that there's no way of testing which sail is suitable for me. Cam or no cam
Do you have the pic of the 4.7 with the chick bending over??
