Probably been covered on here a thousand times, but, first time I've ever broken a batten and looking for any tips on how to remove the broken part that's still in the sleeve? Saw a site that suggested cutting a slit in the sleeve and then cutting a groove in the batten and using a block of wood with a hammer to get it out. Any easier method?

Just done one then! Get a long bit of dowel, just under-sized for the hollow of the batten, sharpen the end a bit and wrap rubber bands around it. Once you find home down the batten sleeve wiggle it around until the rubber bands jam. You'll never separate them again, it's in there permanently. Just saw it off with a bit left over to help line up the repair grp wrap. You'll get quite a few battens out with a 1.8 metre length from Bunnings.

Excellent, cheers for that, would never have thought of that.

I'm not going to repair the batten, just retired my 7.7 hornet after 6 years of use so I'll use one out of it.

Don't cut the sail. Push from the cam end scrunch hold release scrunch hold release just like getting the mast out. Or with the broken batten put a screw into it with the head cut off and thread back into pocket find the broken batten and screw together and pull out & either a sleeve the break or new batten.

I have done a heap of these, if it's the tube broken just get a solid batten push it in the pocket then inside the broken tube, you push down on the batten that you just slid into the broken one and pull out at the same time, the aim it to bend the batten so the tension keeps them together, should slide out with it. , can do opposite with a broken solid batten.

If th batten has splintered and getting stuck in the batten pocket and won't come out, i unpick the stitching in the batten pocket and pull the batten out the side, obviously unpick just near where it's broken and only about 5cm. then you can hand stitch it back up.

Use a metal tube that barely fits over the batten. Slide it over bend and pull out.
