Just happened to be in Noumea on the weekend of slalom racing.
Only 12-15 knts on Saturday & Sunday not enough wind.
That's pretty light conditions for New Caledonia.
Video shot from our balcony at La Promenade Hotel with a little Canon Legria on tripod. It's about 1.5km from there to that first island, Ile aux Canard (Duck Is).
At 2.34 note all the kites at Ilot Maitre (second island in background). They're like a cloud over the island!
more later on sailing & holidaying there...
cheers
That's bl..dy good Peter !! Especially with a small camera !!
On that day I was sailing at "ilot maitre" under the" kite cloud....
On my way back I joined the group racing towards the finish line, was good fun except a couple of them really kicked my a..
The guy you see nearly missing his gybe at 2.02 is Jean Louis Colmas, inventor of the wood technology and creator of Starboard.
He is so fast ! (and he's nearly 60...)
The vid taken from nose of board shows what an amazing piece of engineering the uj is, such a small piece of kit, and such a major part in the whole set up staying together under force
Should have taken my camera down to the water that day, but I was going for a sail.
Would have shown how many boards were rigged. There was every combination of board, sail & fin you could imagine - all top line stuff.
And gear you don't see in Aust.
Windsurfing def alive & kicking in New Cal.
