I'm not going to observer the starboard rule anymore because I'm only 2% of the people sailing on the broadwater and I won't really make a difference anyway.
Hey man, it's not like all the kiters are doing it, and certainly not the jet skis. Hardly any boats even notice me.
So what's the point? I'm just one guy. 1.5% It won't make any difference.
And it really stuffs up my perfect runs sometimes.
Starboard, they make boards, I wouldn't say they rule.
Right of way,
I'm right and someone else is usually in my way. (mostly Gavin)
Despite the fact I jumped into this sport last year and before I was kiting ...
Here in Bermuda there is only one rule, the guy before the last one in the water can't leave the beach until the last one is closer to the beach.
Remember, if something happens in the water, only another Windsurfer/Kiter may save your life so always respect other people in the water.
Just kill the sag ban on the jet-sky!
Last year one kiter smashed his head on a rock, almost 2 miles away from the shore and thanks to another kiter he was able to be seen and saved; then he spent 1 year in Boston in an hospital but now he is safely back home.
or half way through a spin trick or riding fin first.
Yeah we got it.
Starboard rule is for your own safety, give way when your on port tack and presume others wont give way when your on starboard tack.
As waterways get more crowded and more used - i would be looking to aford people more courtesy rather than less. May save you a nasty on water collision or carpark fat lip.
I've come up with a fair three point guideline for all water craft.
1) Windsurfers give right of way to other Windsurfers on starboard tack.
2) All other water craft give way to Windsurfers.
3) Kitesurfers give way to all other water craft.
You also have to remember that in a marked channel motor has right of way over sail regardless of being on starboard or port. Makes sailing in some areas very difficult ie Manly
Guess I was reading into it too much, thought it was a comment on the climate debate. Would have proved a nice point if it was.
