Thought I would share my little repair / modernising job with you all.

Went out the other week, went ass over tit and smashed the mast into the already weak nose of the old girl and this happened:

So after a few beers I drew some lines, strapped everything down and got to work.






At around 11.30pm on a Tuesday night after a few to many beers and some rather detailed shaping with a grinder the police came and told me the neighbours didn't like me anymore so things slowed down for the rest of the week till the weekend came and I finished off the shape, filled a few divots from where the grinder got a little hungry and taped it all up ready for some new skin.

I put a two strips of carbon along the top side edge to help when I smack the mast again and one big continuous carbon layer over the top and wrapped it around the chine and covered the bottom, wrapped it in peel ply, then used two 10mm thick bits of spongy foam on the top and bottom. I then put a plastic bag over the top, tapped it on, attached a 12v camping bed pump but on the sucking end to make a make shift vacuum bag to compress the foam on. Foam is awesome for this sort of job as it puts even pressure everywhere and sucks up any excess resin. I dont know why more people dont do it..... Most of the time you can just tape the foam on to the repair but in this case i decided to vacuum as i didn't have someone to help hold everything wile i taped it up.

Then below is the first sail this afternoon! It worked a treat, way better then expected. No nose diving, i think it sails a lot better then before to be honest. Ive faired the bottom with some bog but the top hasn't had any finishing, i think that will never happen to be honest and the board looks more my style this way :P

Smooth job! You can hardly tell it's been modified.
Ya neighbours must be kiters. No appreciation of a masterpiece in the making.

Nice one, but if you've got a bucket could you please tell us what's the volume/weight now ? ;-)

I wish I had of kept the off cuts to measure as they would have fitted in my bath.....Shes definitely lighter the before, all the foam in the nose was full of salt and resin from a previous repair from the old owner.

How well does it do in the chop now? Do you set the mast foot further back?

Nope, biggest fleet they have ever had and I missed it due to $$

Fine, if anything better, fits in the crests better I think. No change in track position first time out

I have a lot of bic 283 love

Beginner/intermediate myself at 94kg - haven't found a modern board that works as well for me with a 7m sail and the 46 fin. Getting into the plane is almost automatic - tip foot towards outside rail to bear away and its a goer



One of these Bic has had a rough nose job ;-) the other has ugly nose protector - don't understand the thinking on the Turkish Court Slipper , Perky nipple nose :-)

After my frustration with getting a 2013 Go 151 working the older bic was a breath of fresh air. With my crap balance I have to mainly water start it - so when there is enough in the gusts for a 7m to get me on board the Bic is a blast. In these conditions I struggle with the Go 151 to get on and stay on the plane ?? Can't explain why??

I can easily get fatter boards going in lighter winds (old Go 155 and Jp superlightwind 92 intermediate) but once its 7m wind just love the bic!!

Probably a question for another thread but what does the Bic have that I haven't found in the Go and what would be a more modern board equivalent of the Bic. Especially as I don't need the volume for up hauling as I rarely do this on the Bic?
