Unfortunately my old original GoPro got submerged for a few seconds in the casing with the lid closed but not locked/ still open.
Immediately rinsed it for few seconds in fresh water and left for 1 day to dry in sun. Got the SD card out & is fine and footage plays.
Does anyone have any tips or procedures to clean, get salt out etc?? It will NOT turn on.
Many thanks,
Larko.

if it wont turn on I think u r too late but could try the old mobile phone tricks.......
wash well briefly in distilled water to get rid of salty crystallisation then metho to get the water out.
Then into a big bag of rice to dry it out.

That was supposed to be while still wet though...... so hmmm

I think the bag of rice trick only works because the rice attracts Asian people who are recognised as being good with electronics and can fix your camera.

I think those three things together are more expensive then an original GoPro.

I believe a bowl of rice could be better than a bag ( more airy ) . My daughter brought back a dead drowned MP player despite me crying bullish.t . It took about a week . I was amazed . It was fresh water washing machine ( so a proper drowning ) . Worth a try.

Yeah I dropped a phone in the dunny twice.
Both times was straight under the tap, then distilled water, 2mins in methanol, then into mum's rice (which now makes you blind if you eat it). Imax, by bag I ment placcy bag, not cloth. Not airy. :)

Those phones both lasted well..... but we're talking back in the push button days of the early 2000's. (Shut up, Loto you were alive then too...)

Now, I reckon a garden variety iPhone 5 in a Lifeproof is the answer....... not an acre of glass that cracks if you look at it funny, not "waterproof" from factory but can't plug in headphones (which means no weather station) .... easy, durable, waterproof.

Need clarification , did u drop the same phone twice at the same time ?
Was it because it was slippery from the first drop ?
Was it because u were on the great white phone to god and it wasn't working so u pulled out the mobile ?
Plug for weather station ? , what's wrong with the fuzz on the bottom of the testicals method ?
Ever since I got a windomometer I never rig the right sail .

Gday Kato,

drowned my hero3+ in vanuatu, opened it, removed battery, rinsed the hell out of it with fresh water, blowdried it, then left it in a rice container in the sun for a week.

It now turns on when connected to computer but not with battery, so maybe a short circuit in the battery. Will check later. I could save the memory card with the turtle footage and the missus in bikini, all good !!!!!
