there are only a few guys of us that sail here roughly 5 and rarely together.. the topic of discussion during one of the breaks last sunday was do you just sail in cruising mode back and forth or on the edge a 100%? i asked a mate why he doesn't really go all out and the answer was "am a bit on the scary side"..didn't bother us since not all are the same..but we still pushed for him to step up a bit from say 80% and he'll enjoy a lot more like the most of us, but still the answer same..no problem we answered as long as we criscross each other back and forth with grinning faces it doesn't make a difference..do most of us have the same thing goingcurious 10X's
JP..
Wind has been soooooooo crapola this summer
that any time it blows - ya gotta go hard
....(& broke a mast on the rare time out last Fri )
yikes winey just one outing and craaak! ouch....well i personally sail as hard as i can
and as much as i can, gasoline is getting expensive so i better rip as fast as a nympho canby the way your ozzie shiraz's are in high demand here in the liquor stores after the chilean one's
I don't think you can improve without testing the limits, it's the only way you can develop the CNS to cope with new things eg going faster etc, gybing better, jumping well. However, sailing in cruising mode can be a total relaxation and even meditative experience. So if your windsurfing it's all good really, but don't expect to improve too much if ya don't push it!!
If your boom grip gets dry, then this is a signal that you must immediately try something else. Like a vulcan or double forward [}:)]
I like to think that you know you are pushing it when you are scared but loving it at the same time. Thats the addiction IMHO
The first thing my missus asks me when I return from a sesh is 'Did you break anything?'. Unfortunately all too often the answer is 'yeh well I kinda.....'.
I love pushing it to the max.
Nothing sweeter than that adrenaline high you get from sailing on the edge of control.
For me Windsurfing is escaping and freedom to do as my mood requires.
Some days I push myself to the limits, crash and burn, swear and smile, on every run. Other Days I just feel like hooking in and sailing of into the horizon for a cushy cruze.
Windsurfing is what you want it to be. Its good to go hard as much as its Kool just to cruise. Whatever you do, Just do it for yourself!!!
Some times I want to cruise and just enjoy being out
Sometimes I fit the angry eyes and see how far I can push it
With mates around with GPS's strapped to their arms, The red mist drops and all thoughts of sailing rationally go out the window when someone gets a better speed damn you Pedro
If you're not CRASHING you're not trying hard enough.... Thanks to Steb Fisher at www.steb.com.au for capturing this classic of me trying really really hard! Hopeless....
Yesteday afternoon, when a big gust came through, was the only time I have ever felt over powered....so far. I crashed bigtime and loved it Love that feeling of pushing the limits.
Flicky, if your going to crash at least you do it with style.
I find it is the wind and not me that decides what kind of session I have, in 12 knotts and a 7m sail on a 140L board it is hard to be real radical, but when the wind picks up and I can get the small board out, it is clench the cheeks and let's see what this baby can do.
I also find that it is hard to really push it when you are on your own. When monster is out as well we do tend to push each other a bit further just to see what will happen.
hey iceman are you free yet ,looks good for tomorrow arvo , just hoeing into a big tub of pickled mussels if the wind wont blow ill make my own wind
