This week end we had our first slalom comp, 60 avid racers on the water.

At the end of the season the first 4/6 will be directly entering the PWA final in November.

So all the top guns were fired up to start grabbing points.
Plenty of brand new 2014 gear (not really treated will all the respect due.... ;-) )
Pics taken on the finish line !

little bloke with point 7 is my son (proud dad )

^^^ yeah your [not so] little fella goes OK

How are the Point 7 sails? I saw you asked a question on the other thread about availability of 2014 models. . . .

The lad is turning 15 next month... Getting good at freestyling too

Yes indeed I did ask about the point 7 as we are still awaiting for our 2014 gear here , then I removed my post as I found the details in the link provided.

My opinion on point 7 sails could be called biased as my son and I are sponsored riders.
But I'm honest and don't mind calling a cat a pussy !

Overall very solid gear ! I just love the design, those black sails shine from a distance and are hard to miss on the water.
I wrote a little review on the ACK (3 cams) when I got it last year.

My opinion : if you have the right mast (point 7) they're just formidable, very powerful and locked in, use the wrong mast (like I did first : Naish) and they are very average with terrible cam rotation.

I since upgraded to the race model AC1, 4 cams.... wow !! HUGE sleeve, same solid construction (ie not very light).
The AC1 is really fast, goes through lulls like a dream, and exits jibes (when I nail them) at full speed.

The point7 rig like the Severne on the "other" side.

A clever feature is the extension exact setting drawn on the sail. Just put your extension on the drawing, set it to to the length described and voila...
I've always found the extension settings wrong on any sail depending on the brand you use. No more fiddling !

Main feature : everybody stops at the beach to have a look at my sails and the girls find them "sexy"

Sean, great shots and it looks like the boy 'can' sail. How'd he go racing with the big boys.

Hi Tilldark, sorry no video of the event.
All the pics can be found here : www.diabolofunboard.com/spip.php?article2432

Thanks Brian, he finished 39th overall.... he was quite upset with himself, as he had shocker starts at each heat (forgot his stopwatch in the car...)
The windsurfing club has noticed him and offered him to enter the slalom team training every week. We'll see, as I still fist want him to just enjoy.
I am quite happy with the result as it's only his second comp and all the big boys were there.

just for you :

Sean

Great photos in the Diablo Funboard site. Are all the sailors locals? How many competed?

Sean,
You should share with the other current topic why windsurfing is so popular (including youngsters) in New Cal so We can apply here to grow the sport.

Probably because they don't let their kids have iPads. Hate those things, worst thing I ever bought.
