Inspirational stuff...regular Slalom DEFINITELY needs to be brought back to a WA beach like City Beach and Leighton. I'm keen to see a monthly weeknight Slalom and a monthly Downwinder starting from the old Port Cafe site and landing at City Beach in front of Clancy's...why should the SUP Downwinder crew have ALL the fun!!??
Maybe we should look at getting some of the Japanese slalom crew down here to remind us of how it should be done!! Warriors that they are.
great stuff !!
(thinking of the pros here complaining about the chop....)
chop? what chop?
Yeesh. That's intense water state for slalom gear! And the bottom gybe marker right in the breakers. Skills.
That's how the PWA slaloms used to be run back in the day. Beach start with one marker set outside past the break and one inside in the middle of it.
I like the new 3-batten race sails..."our designs are so stable, we decided to eliminate 80% of the sail weight !"
...given that other sailors were using 9 battens in the same conditions.
Hi Guys,
the conditions where crazy on the first day, where this movie was taken. (Search for the foreigner @ the start of movie)
We had 2.6m waves with 30+ knots of wind and with a very strong current similar to a river. Once you dropped, you where gone...
I was on my 5m wave sail + 90L iSonic 2014 for the first race, out of control...
Later I changed to the 4.5m sail + 87L iSonic 2012(?), better control but trouble to stay upwind with the 32 Talon.
The pro's where on the 5.5/6 sails most of the times with 87l or 80l
the next day it was calmer with only 1.5~2m wave which decreased gradually over the day with around 20knots
the whole day race I was on the 90l + 6.2 R5, some times quite on the edge but it kept working. My friend with J202 was on his 7.0 R5 the whole because he got washed badly on the first with his 6.2 200m before the finish line on the last race of the day....
Here is another movie from the top guy (5 races, 5 clear wins...) where he used a GoPro during the entire race, it looks so easy...
Still wonder why I'm heavily struggling in such conditions
Some thing else what showed up is this here
Tomorrow I'll go to pick up my new sails because on the coming weekend we have our Japanese amateur championship in Miura, with 30+ winds....

Fun times ahead... but at least with much less waves...

That's what l call old skool slalom.doesn't get any better side shore 25 knot wind in surf.l not gong to whinge anymore about the 1 foot chop that l endeavor when l go out.you can only get betting sailng in those conditions? P.S. did you notice in one of mens races how quick he waterstated after going over .very skillful sailors.
