It's not too cold - takes only about 30 minutes near the heater to sort out the man-gina

Firie, you suck the big one.

And so do you jermaldan.

And everyone else who has experienced more than a brief 5 knot zephyr in the last month sucks the big one as well.

Feck I wish the intertubes could transmit wind as well, "Here nebs have this download, it's half an hour of 20 knots, enjoy" would go down very very nicely right now, I don't care if it's raining and miserable

Coal Pt in a from SE -NE , Belmont bay ( squids or slip) in a W , Valentine in SW -S ( & yesterday in a NNW for the 1st x).
Got a sail . 6.6m + 125ltre board.. top of wind range for both..Last time I went out I did 6 great gybes in a row!..I thought 'I'm back!" yeah right ..stuffed evry gybe last night..the techniques that worked in ideal winds didnt in choppy overpowering.. totally buggered but decided to rig down to a 5.7m..still trying to rig bigger than I usually do as it is easier to plane into gybes..board still too big & tiring right arm felt like sphagetti & useless..Decided I'd try the little board 95ltre - even though by now it was getting close to dark & I was buggered.
Dont go out when your buggered. I could hardly start the thing as I was really overpowered & didnt have the strength to maneovre it so it didnt round up starting so more energy sapping falls. Finally got going totally overpowered & decided to gybe & the outhaul pinged off.The knot in the end had somehow come undone , luckily it was still cleated at the other end so I didnt lose it..Nothing like trying to retie a knot & feed line through pulleys in icey water & overpowering choppy conditions.. By now I was REALLY stuffed & feeling cold from lying in the water for ages ( despite the thermal , steamer , helmet , gloves & booties). I knew I had to H20 start & get back in as I was 500m out half way to Toronto & faced a 1/2 hr + float in icey H20 to Swansea in the dark...Somehow found the strength to get started but fell in again overpowered. The sail was getting slammed down on top of me & I didnt have the energy or arm strength to pull the sail on & get into the straps etc. I knew if I couldnt hook in as I came up I was rat****.Anyway finally got up & in on dark....So much for 'conquering ' the gybes...
To make it worse Id stuffed a gybe earlier & fallen into the sail with my front foot still in the strap & the board upside down & pulled a muscle all the way down my leg into the tailbone..Did you know you had muscles connecting to your tailbone? I didnt until today..
That was only on the lake which is pretty safe and it was prob only blowing 20 - 25kts.. Must be scary out to sea.Goes to show you need to kit warmly..Id hate to think how cold I would have been if Id had to sit in the water an hour.
Is there any way you can lie the rig still rigged on the board & paddle in? I thought about dragging the whole kit in but seemed a LONG WAY to my tired mind and unwieldy .Grr feel like a beginner again.Ive been doing a lot of cycling lately so I thought Id kill the sailing .. yeah right.. bought that ego back to earth..

I saw on the "Beginner to Winner" CD that you could undo the mast foot, lie inside the boom so that you are lying on the boom with the sail dragging behind and paddle in. Looked quite easy and quick but I haven't tried it.

By the way, when I am tired and start to make mistakes, I come in. Too easy to push yourself past your limits and not realise it.

When hopelessly overpowered try waterstarting with both feet in teh straps, and hokking is basically teh instant you clear the water.
Also, hangin like a monkey under the boom, squatting right down on the board can be a good tactic too.

Yep..except I realised it..still I have a new board & ive only had 4 goes on it as mainlythere gasnt been enough wind so I had to go out & try it on dark buggered..
With lying inside the boom and the sail dragging behind.. that sounds a bit dangerous if there is heaps of wind..? Couldnt the rig flip & take you with it..?
