Hi all, just wondering if anyone may have used this tracker in the past, the qstarz cr-q1100p, seems relatively cheap $170, but that may be the problem ???

Not that specific model, but we have had a few earlier and other Qstarz models.

It has MTK GPS engine which did not give accuracy data so it was not seriously investigated further.

The 5hz MTK chip was evaluated in the engineering sample GT-35's that we had. The NMEA Doppler speed data agreed very well with the Sirf (GT-31) GPS data from the same device (dual GPS engines), but used stand alone it does not include error data.

When the GT-31 was available, there was no reason to play with it any more.

It is the same situation now we have the 5Hz GW-52 which is better in most every way: Has SDOP error data, screen display with speed Genie and has been extensively tested and known to be 'state of the art' accurate.

If you can find a logger to a BT dongle available now that is built around a U-Blox GPS chip. please let us know. That one could have huge potential.

That one looks really promising Dylan, but I can't find anywhere that actually has them to sell.Maybe they are too new. I will keep searching.

Then we have to find out if they can be configured to output and record UBX binary data.

There is a Czech cycling site that does a review (Bing does a good translation) of this but as it seems it is designed more for cycling not sure how it will stack up for our needs.

It depends what you mean by 'our needs'.

What 'I' need is a reasonably priced (under A$200) GPS device that can record (or BT out) the UBX binary sentences from the Ublox GPS chipset at 10hz or more (assuming a half decent antenna). For me personally, I don't mind if it does not yet have a top speed display or 'speed Genie' type features. I can get that from a cheap Android phone, but if we can get the UBX data into the phone by BT, that would be the best of both worlds.

But I can't yet find it for sale so I have idea if the price is reasonable.

Andrew,

Here is a $9.50 usb 10 Hz Ublox gps dongle that logs in Ublox protocol.

www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Gps-Dongle-G-mouse-G-mouse_60096779400.html

Perhaps Matt would know if it would run off phone (suspect only windows phones) with cable connection as if plugged in to a laptop ??

Of course if we can find something with its own battery and BT it would be far simpler... Navisys in Taiwan have BT usb Ublox dongle with battery but only 5Hz and NMEA protocol

As for the Sportrek 1305 it appears to be developed from the Funtrek 132 which has prices from US $230-299 on the web and only 10000 parameter set on tracks log. (17 min at 10Hz)

Thanks David. the dongle is usb only which means no battery and no internal memory. I must be plugged into the USB port of a computer of some sort to get power and log data. Close, but no Banana.
