Keef would it not be better to move the fin box on your board forward 2cm and do away with the fin overhang given your seem to always use weedies?

PS: did you sand out the ridges on the back half of the fin when you raked the slingshot 17 degrees?

yoyo all of my fins greater than 45deg are forward boxed , i'm not sure if the sling shot has any ridges but most of my fins have ridges , lumps and bumps , unintentional asymmetrical ect, but for some strange reason they work, I sent a couple of fins to decrepit with one being the modified sling shot, and the other was my interpretation of an assy but it was probably crooked, I imagine he has straitened them out and finished them off, the fins were full carbon so he had heaps to work with, both fins have a stainless steel leading edge
, i'm coming up to the third season with mine and the stainless is holding out but I have to keep building up the glass either side , as you can see from the pics the fins are in good shape for over 2 years of sailing in heavy weed and sandy bottoms for a carbon fin ,
the first pic are the fins I sent to decrepit and the 2nd and 3rd are the original's

I moved a powerbox 'half a fin box' forward in a JP board years ago to see whether it made up for the coe of weed fins being further back. It does, and the board feels more 'lively'. I gave up on the idea though as I found out I just got used to weed fins and now anything else feels strange.

The dissadvantge to doing this was that the finscrew is now just in front of the back of the rear straps, and the way I did it, it requires a really long fin screw.

Keef seems to make fins for a lot of other people, so it wouldn't make sense to not to have the overhang on the fins. I have some weed fins made like this and a bit of eva foam is good to keep out the weed.

Dale I don't make fins for other people I loan them out mainly to gustbusters and brown noses at primbee, you can see a line of kiss a-se brown noses lined up waiting for me to arrive on big westerlies
I will have to agree with you about boxing the fin forward , personally I think it helps to stop spinout in chop with a small fin , one of my favorite fins is the fin in the pic with the vertical trailing edge , you can hit a bit of chop that would have ended in huge spinout with a delta, but with the 5deg less rake and being carbon it's a lot more forgiving

Keef, still haven't had a chance to give your fins a good work out, but the weed banks are starting to appear again here, just need enough wind to go with it.

found a few pictures of the larger SWEED proto fins
one is mounted in a Falcon99 and the big monster is mounted in a iS117wide

the fins are:
SWEED 32/25/48 and 45/35/48 [power equivalent to normal slalom fin/depth/rake angle]

any comments?

Looks like great all round weedys, but for thick weed I've a feeling that you could cut the tips off, accepting a bit more induced drag and getting less drag from the weed.

Has anybody done any investigation, of the tracks left in the weed by the fin?
I'm wondering if it's evident how the weed has moved, is it pushed aside, pushed down or cut through.
That could give us a clue how to design less dragy fins.

had to respond to this post.referring to people as brown noses and kiss asses just makes you sound like a a shole.
while you may think your fins are faster than pepe,s i would rather go a bit slower and use a fin from someone i like and respect.

hey ratz is that your nick name because your a rat, well don't stand in line at primbee because I can smell a rat a mile away you know we have the gps team challenge where we collect jellybeans and seabreeze where we collect red thumbs and sorry buddy but I sucked you in ,
tell me why would you buy a shallow water carbon fin and run it through abrasive weed and sand at 40 knts when you can brown nose keef or stand in line
the guy with the biggest nose is nathon (tongue in cheek) no teams mentioned )he's done 40knts on the slingshot mod in 40 knts + wind , hey don't get me wrong hes a nice guy, hes just got a big nose
my avatar is the second fastest board( fastest custom) in NSW at 42,7+ knts and didn't cost him a cent , not even a kiss on the ass so he knows he's got a big nose but doesn't he give a ratz he's a good friend
one of my best mates is designing fins from a mold i gave him and is talking to one of the top companies , he'll be down in a few weeks to kiss my ass again
i have girl from another NSW team who put a post up ( how can i get keef to make me a fin) and one of her team mates called her a brown noser, so i'm making her a fin for some encouragement
just noticed a post where fangman is brown nosing decrepit www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Gps/balck-project-shallow-water-weedy/ and there friends ,just like my friends that are standing in line, i don't think i have lost any of there respect , and i wonder why i get sooooooooooooooo many red thumbs
"edit" ratz i know my fin is faster than pepe's , all you need to do is compare the two , you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out

I think if you met Keef and spoke to him in person you would know the way he meant it is a joke. If he was actually serious, he wouldn't be lending fins to anyone.
