After a long time of not using my GW-60 I have just recharged it. The time screen displays but when I press the GPS button the screen goes blank with the back light on then the back light turns off then it beeps and back light comes on and the the screen returns to the time screen with the incorrect time as it has been unable to connect to the satellite. The watch also fails to connect to the utility on the computer with a com port error. My other newer GW-60 works as expected so the problem seems to be with the GW-60.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
Anyone have any ideas on a fix or is it better off in the bin?
Thanks for any help / ideas in advance.
there's probably a few things to try before you bin it.
Make sure you have a good connection between clamp and watch, clean both of them thoroughly. if you can get a connection, but still no GPS, update the firmware.
GW60s commonly have connection problems due to slightly corroded or salty contacts.

Thanks but I had already tried those things The error I am getting when I try to connect is can't see device on com port. But I do not think it is the contacts as I have cleaned them. I have also updated the firmware. I think the problem is with the watch as the GPS is not starting up correctly and it just sends you back to the Time display.
Try pressing all the buttons a few times while it's charging. That works d for me once.
Unfortunately that did not work for me. Interestingly when you press the GPS button when it is charging the word sleep is displayed briefly on the screen.
so the best thing I can think of, is put the innards of a strapless one in there.
We need somehow to match people up that have good straps, with those that have good workings.
don't bother contacting locosys, they will tell you it is not worth sending it for fixing and you should buy a new one. Mine works perfectly and the strap is good, but it does not get a satellite fix anymore. Happy to donate cable and body if someone can make good use of it
I can't remember how the antenna connection is made, but that may be worth a look.
In my case the GPS screen never displays so I think what ever is going wrong is before it decides the antenna is not working. But I might pull it apart and have a look.
Hi all, Im happy to buy old gw60s if the price is resonable. Most watches are repairable when damage is caused by water entering through buttons. Sieko supply pressor button springs in stainless with a rubber seal about $10 each. button The stock spring is copper or coated and snaps into pieces damaging the rubber seal and button shaft. Depending on where or which button leaked it causes corrosion which if cleaned soon enough. The damage can be fixed by scrubbing with alcohol gel then clean with isopropyl (multiple times).
Sometimes solder joins need to be reheated to get a clean connection again.
The Usb is internally connected to the main board with springs. This can cause bad connection issues.
Check if button has a good spring return after a push, usually a sign of trouble when it doesnt move much.
Replace battery and re-grease buttons and seal after cleaning any corrosion there is not much else to do (if cable and usb connection are good).
I have a few watches here for friends waiting for parts and a good band is alway useful.
Batteries are getting hard to find in the 250mah(stock) size, but still heaps about at 200mah.
Batteries are about $10 (double since before covid).
Happy to look at them for anyone if they can be bothered posting.
Legless, Mine did the same after not using for a while but it came good after leaving it outside for half an hour with clear view to the sky, then playing around with it. I think it just needed to re-calibrate to satellites. By the way I'm in the market for a new watch band if anyone has one!
Just had the same happen to my watch....push GPS button and it goes to sleep then comes back to watch only. I'll try the Sun thing but not confidant. Any other ideas? (Im not up for pulling apart to look for problems...but if all else fails happy to sendd tto someone who is)

Thanks I decided to give your suggestion a go to day but to my surprise it was back working again and acquired the satellites first time. So the only think I can say is don't be quick to throw your watch out if you think it is not working as it might start working again after letting the battery run down and recharging it.

The old turn off and turn on again, but you have to wait for the battery to go flat before it fully turns off
Looks like mine has come good as well, mine wouldn't respond to any buttons.
But I've also noticed, there's a "reboot device" button on the util.
I also hit that, after it rebooted it seems to work, I'll finish charging battery and see how it goes.

Try hitting the "reboot device" button in the util. Next trick if that doesn't work is reinstall the firmware
Good points TRIMMER. I would be splitting the cases and investigating. This goes for any electronic or mechanical product that develops gremlins.
I would say if water is getting in, then display would develop condensation ?
Battery may be getting old (ESR). I would crack unit open, remove battery, and connect unit to a power supply and see if fault disappears. If so, connect battery back up to see if fault returns. Then remove it again, and connect up power supply to see if it disappears again... etc. Once battery is confirmed as the source of the fault, then replace battery.
If all else fails, I would remove the LCD, and reflow the circuit with a hot gas station.
Best of luck Gareth.

Congrats on getting yours going Decrep. Ive never used the utility but a friend has tried connecting it to his computer but it shuts down as soon as it recognises the computer...same as when pushing the GPS button. Ill let it go flat and try it from there next. Theres no condensation or evidence of damage, buttons work smoothly too so I doubt its had water inside.

Hi decrepit,
sorry to bring this up again after long time. My gw-60 after some months of no use now only shows a blank screen. I'd try the reboot (the utile connects OK), but I can not find the 'reboot' button in the util! Can you please explain where to find it?
I think there's a few different versions of the util I'm now using w1.5AO and that doesn't have the reboot button.
I notice there's a 1.6 version in the HDD, but I don't have time at the moment to install it.
I'll be back later
As an update, my watch that was doing same as the OP's came good after letting it go flat and restarting it again. But after a few uses has gone back to going to sleep when the GPS button is pressed. Ive never used the utility but will give it a try if theres an update type issue?
