Ive been having fun using the Mini Motion GPS and want to put my GT31 in storage for the foreseeable future. It's 13 years old and still works perfectly. How should I store it while not using it? Should I keep it in a bag of rice, or dessicant? Is there some sort of preventative maintenance I can do? I notice the eject spring for the SD card is getting weak - should I take the device apart and clean it?

Interested in your replies.

keep it in a cool dry place and charge the battery every 6 months or so

Yes charge the battery frequently but not to 100% I think I read somewhere 50% is kinder to the battery, but the lower the charge the more often it needs topped up. Your decision

Yes, in the universe of lithium batteries, it is recommended to store them at about 50% charge. That translates to 3.7 volts for Li-Ion or 3.8 volts for LiPo or 3.85 volts for LiHV. They will hold that voltage for many months and not get damaged internally.

So, you wouldn't want to crack it open and spray some contact cleaner in there then?

opening has its own risks, i would do it only if it needed fixing, maybe you can spray a little inside the card slot and usb port

Unless eject spring is causing problems, there's no need to take the device apart.
