I would like to set up my GW-60 for simple windfoiling. Regular speeds of 0-25 kts.

All I need is

1. On-water speed, read while sailing
2. Maximum speed for the day
3. Distance for the day
4. Upload the day's track to my PC
5. Then I will reset everything to zero at the end of the day

I don't need alphas or anything fancy. I don't need to upload data to gps-speedsurfing.com or any other website.

I have seen a few setups on these fora, but they usually had specific objectives, such as alphas. I don't need any of that. Just the basics.

Can anybody recommend settings and usage instructions for my simple needs?

Thanks in advance.

Well first off max speed is meaningless, in my opinion it shouldn't be there!

The 5hz data is very up and down, like a sawtooth, possibly due to noise and/or 3D response. So max speed gives you speed + noise.
A 1sec average is much more meaningful as it averages out the extremes.

My speed sailing settings.

So I think try changing this setting.
If you want to keep track of distance and 1sec average on the water, set the speed genie really low, around 5kts.
That way you'll see current speed above 5kts, but it will scroll below 5kts.

So set "AVG MSEC" to 1.
Leave "RSLT 1A/1B" as is, then change "TOP" to "X" for the rest.

If you don't need the time change "RSLT TIME" to an X as well.

I think that should give you what you want. It should show speed while sailing, and give distance and 1s average when you stop.

Thanks, decrepit. I will try those settings. I agree about the 1 sec to filter spikes.

The reason I need max speed is that I simply want to know how fast I managed to go that day. When I trained for formula this was very important as I tweaked stance, sail trim, downhaul and outhaul, and fin.

Now my goal on the foil is to see if I can get up to 25 kts. Heck I might even try to race the foil (I live on the Columbia River), but I gotta know how fast I am going without having to stare at the watch the whole time. I realize that we don't really foil for speed, but one wants to know.

Hi Decrepit, since I am still a bit confused about some of the settings, here is my current settings. Will this work for my particular simple needs?

I have already changed it a little.

I set LOGGING to 1hz
MIN SPEED is 0
MSEC to 5 sec so that every MSEC speed average is calculated over 5 points; 1 hz and 5 sec should filter out spikes
RSLT 1A/1B is set to MAX MAX
RSLT 2A/2B is set to MSEC TOP (note: RSLT does not even offer a X setting)
RSLT 3 and 4 are both set to X
SPEED GENIE is 5
ACT SPEED is SPEED

So, question. What is the difference between MSEC TOP and MAX ?
