A excellent explanation about GPS and GPS-RTK :

It seems that it should be possible to make your own RTK-GPS with a ESP32. However, a data connection to a base-station is needed.
Greetings, Jan.

This is interesting because I am just waiting for cheap rtk receivers to make my robotic grass mower at farm

I would take the idea of verifiable 1cm constant accuracy with a heavy sprinkling of salt. Surveyors use RTK with ultra expensive GPS equipment, and when last i was out in the field the best accuracy they would give was 30mm.

I have multiple confirmation of RTK now available at $1.5k declaring 0.8 cm accuracy.
Good enough for me to mower the grass

This is my latest grass eater
that just requires RTK upgrade
22 hp diesel 120cm flail mower
This beast cost me $5.5k to door from China BTW

and the previous $2K may benefit on RTK too .
Just need possibly cow lidar spotter because is quite a quick beast!
mow the cow !

Whatever you do, don't equip it with A.I. The last thing we need is a bonafide real life horror movie.

It always seems to start with the cows. Then it gets a taste for blood, etc, etc.

Yeeep ! I love it . Because my latest deal is with IA !!!! indeed
we are going to develop AI with our Chinese partner !!!
Hopefully will not eat my all cows before we debunk some issues @!
to be clear I want to teach the beast to feed on my Lantana bushes rather then Angus flock!

Issue is sustaining RTK at speed, with vibrations, with varying attitudes, with water on/off the antenna, and in a small enough format to be worn. Then there's the issue of the abysmal (price+time+logistics+energy)/rewards ratio.

Speed was never a problem (surveying at least.) we used to hook them up to cars if we only had to do an arbitrary "here it is" road survey. The gps would maintain accuracy whilst at speed quite well.

most of the problem is with the terrain blocking signal from the base station. Sometimes we had to set up radio repeaters. But it really also depends on having that known waypoint for the base station, somewhere near enough to where you're going to play with it.
