I've set myself the challenge of cracking a 40 knots 2-second while I can still call myself a 40 year old.
It got me thinking - who is the record-holder of continuing to match your 2 sec with your age beyond that?
Any 44 year olds pulling 44 knot 2 seconds?
45 year olds pulling 45 knots?
Is 46 knots from a 46 year old out of the question?
Someone like AA could continue this pattern well into the mid to high 40's I would have thought?
I think the field of contenders would narrow dramatically as you get into the low to mid 40s.
So come on, fess up your highest 2-seconds that matched your age and we'll see who is the king/queen!! (and pay due homage to that sterling achievement).
Eckers...
I managed a 44 knot 2 second earlier this year and I was 44.
I managed a 46 when I was 41 .
Still, I'd like to go a few knots faster at least. Trouble is, my home spot Sandy Point is about 20 years past it's prime. I reckon if I had my current equipment in the conditions of the late nineties, the top speeds would be two-three knots faster - and I would be 20 years younger! So half the speed = age!

Daffy and Decrepit to name a couple of outstanding sailors I think set a benchmark standard for achievement in the senior years. Respect.
eckers if you want some inspiration you don't need to leave your own back door , Terry was out there mixing it up for 32k's with some wild 40nt+bullets and he has to be on the long end of 60
also another legend who comes to mind is Decrepit with 328k's in 2014 and 3 38nt 2 secs this month and close to 70 or is he 70
I think decrepit is in his low 70's now, although he does not look a day older than 60!
I very fit man and still keen as'! An inspiration to many of us irrespective of his age.
I didn't officially crack 40 knots until I was 53, in 2004. I say 'officially' because that is when we had a way to actually know due to using the first GPS devices. I might have got close a few times before that but have no way of knowing.
I got to 44 at 55 in about 2006. There is some symmetry in that.
All I want now is to do another PB while I still can hold a boom. They are getting a lot harder to come by...... It will take a very special day and place!
All I can recommend is that you widen your travels to try and be in the right place at the right time. (To me that is exactly what speed sailing is all about). I am extremely fortunate to have been at Sandy Point though its golden years. It's not as consistently good now, but there is no doubt it can still produce PB conditions for me when everything comes together just right. In the meantime, travelling to the many other great speed spots in Australia has enabled me to get PB's in other categories, have fantastic fun doing it and meet some of the best people in the world.
Hook in and hold on!

Well you should have worked your way up slowly like I'm doing
Guys like yourself and Decrepit show age is just a number, mad Mike consistently does more distance each session than the rest of us, he's a machine and as you say a real inspiration. In his 70's and he knocks out a 38 only a week or two ago on a day that was just too cold for me to bother
To this group you should also add Tibor from Lake Mac GPS team. Tibor is 70+ and regularly sails at Budgiewoi and regular competitor at Burrum Windfest. He also still competes in Formula at both club, state, national and most recently world titles. The following photo is from this years windfest.
45.7kt 2 sec when I was 48 but its only a number

Thanks guys.
My speed=age challenge was 70km/hr before I was 70, made that at Lake George in 2013 when I was 68.
40kts still eludes me though.

Not only a fantastic sailor, but a gentleman through and through. I wanna be just like him when I grow up.

Looks like Choco is in the lead unless we flush out a 47knot 2-sec from a 47 year old?
Decrepit raises a nice parallel 'contest' - same rules but speed in kph rather than knots.

OK so early this month, 72.12 km/hr when I'm 72.
I'll keep working on it.

Yeah that's the way. We can keep up in kmh! Great effort too!

Not so fast, all measurements were imperial when you were born. Knots aside, feet per second is the next appropriate age-related measure of speed.
72 fps = 42.6 knots = 78.9 kph.
You'll need to go a little faster.
Can any youngsters do it in m/sec?

depends on what you mean by that.... Daffy is way older than that, and faster.
OK, I may have found the winner, age filter for 50 to 51 age group and I get, "Marcus 50.15"
www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?team=86&date=2013-10-17
woops I made a mistake here. If I filter 50 to 50 he disappears, he only comes back at 51 to 51, still very impressive though! Instead there's this. "B52 49.16" filter 49 to 49

Sorry Kato the best Aussie I can find is Spotty. Spotty 46.99 with age filter at 46-46

So 18.288m/sec for an 18yo?
